Is this normal?

Can't find anything about this on the forum. 2014 ACE 30.1. The compartment that houses the house batteries and leveling jack pump slides back and forth. Never noticed it before. Looked underneath, can't see any points where it would be fixed solid. And the exhaust pipe from the genset has a mount on this area. Maybe it's to compensate for travel or bumps but it sure doesn't look right.

No, not normal for 2 reasons.

1 - The plastic part of the enclosure should attach to the inside of the wall just like any other compartment, and probably did at one time until........

2 - This compartment has supports welded to the frame to support the heavy loads in it. Some of those supports have broken loose. Get under there where you can see them and rock that compartment like you did in the video. You should see things moving that aren't supposed to.

Mine did that. Looked underneath and there was a point of attachment to the body via sheet metal screws. Several were missing. I took one in to the hardware store and bought the next size up. Found all the original holes and installed the new screws. Held up for 2vyears so far. There is a screw every 4-6 inches or so.

Thanks for all the info. I replaced/added a bunch of screws in another compartment on the other side so I'll check the same place on this compartment. I had returned my unit to the storage lot before I got your responses but we're about 3 miles away so I'll have a look tomorrow. I wonder how long it's been like that since I've blown 3 leveler hydraulic lines over the past year but at the jack end. These units are so cheaply put together.

Not one screw in any hole. Can't see into the hole to see if the screw heads just broke off. Is it possible they were never installed? Don't see any indentation around the screw hole like something was previously there. We've had the unit since Aug 2015. Wasn't used much until a 2 month trip in Sep 2016 then a 5 month trip starting last May-Oct, 7000 miles.

No sign of any paint being buggered up: the screws were never installed!

I would concur that there never was anything screwed in there to begin with.

Must have been close to lunch or quitting time.

Called THOR and their reply was, oh yeah, they probably forgot to put screws in. Hopefully my extended warranty will cover it and will only be $50.

Just heard back from Lazy Days. My $5400 extended warranty doesn't cover this, only component failure

You could ask Thor if they're also going to cover the huge lawsuit that results from it falling into the highway...

So I know you're all been anxiously awaiting the result of this. Took it in today for repair. The shop said there wasn't one screw in there and no signs of any screw head indentations which I previously thought. Only charged me $60 for half an hour. I'm surprised I didn't see this sooner as we did a 7000 mile trip last summer. And I guess the foam rubber strip was the only thing preventing the compartment from swinging back and forth. More THOR excellent quality. I think I'll send them the bill

My experience with Thor customer care has been good, with several different issues. I suggest you call or email them, describe this. You may be pleasantly surprised when they pay the bill.

If you read my above post you'll see I called them. Not much help. My letter and bill to them is ready to get mailed.

Sorry, I guess I misunderstood. Thought you called, they said yeah screws were probably left out... but my thought was now that it’s been confirmed by the dealer, that they’d own their failure. Now I understand you’re saying they did not appear willing to accept responsibility. That is a shame, and really quite an outrage IMO.

Last year I discovered that a storage compartment had no screws in its rear half. I could see the ground through the gap. I inspected the other compartments and found they used screws very sparingly. I installed a total of 97 additional to bring things up to snuff.

Your rig must have been nailed together by the same joker that worked on Fooch's...

Nope, not pleasantly surprised. Got a phone call from THOR today. I think his name was Ron. He said he ran my letter up the chain and the warranty dept won't cover it because I'm the second owner and it's not under warranty. My contention is that is was never put together correctly from the factory so I don't really care how many owners it has or if it's still under warranty. I guess I was expecting that kind of response from them. Although I really haven't had any major problems with our unit, it really is put together cheaply. I don't think I would ever buy a THOR again.
