Onan 4000 replaced by Flex Power i4000

When I purchased my new 2024 Chateau 22E, it had a green Onan 4000 generator. 3 months later after a few visits to the dealer services, I suddenly realized it becomes a white Flex Power 4000i. Nobody told me about this. Has this happened to anyone else? Now I have problem with A/C powered equipment and receptacles, they seem to use the D/C battery power through the inverter, not directly from the shore power. I am very confused. I've noticed in a Thor's Owner Resource intro video, it was also showcasing a white Flex Power generator.

You purchased a motorhome... and 3 months later your Onan generator magically morphs into a Flex Power generator?? Something's missing in your story...

So you're saying that the dealer swapped out your Onan generator with a Flexpower Inverter generator when you weren't looking? From the pictures of 2024 22E I see online the Flexpower is what comes with it.

The "inverter" in inverter generator is not an inverter in the RV that uses battery power.

Yes, the Onan morphed into a Flex Power. I'm not kidding, I am going to ask the dealer service what happened.

What do you mean an "inverter" generator? My RV didn't come with an inverter when I purchased, I had to install an inverter myself, will there be a problem with that extra inverter?

For a while I ran my airconditioner through the inverter I had installed.
I had two 100 amp batteries and,if they were low, the ac wouldnt kick on.
I have since wired the air conditioning off of the inverter.

I have a low hour qg 4000 if you want to swap back.

OP, were you having problems with the Onan?
Something in your experience with the dealer genny swap does not make any sense.

The 4000i is an inverter generator:
Quote:
An inverter generator is a type of portable generator that produces AC (Alternating Current) power, like a conventional generator, but converts it into DC (Direct Current) and back into a cleaner and more stable AC power using clever electronic circuitry.
The original AC and generator DC are NOT connected to your RV.

If you installed an inverter, which one and what are you powering with it.

Also - find your build sheet eith from the Thor Owners Resource website or inside one of your cabinets. What generator does it say was installed in your MH from the factory?

EDIT: He has a 3000 watt Renogy inverter W/O ATS, only plugs, installed by Camping World.

So this statement:
Quote:
Now I have problem with A/C powered equipment and receptacles, they seem to use the D/C battery power through the inverter, not directly from the shore power.
Likely has nothing to do with the inverter or generator, but maybe his ATS, power cord, plug-in, etc.

Let me try to explain what inverters and inverter generators are. We are getting the two confused.

An inverter such as made by Victron takes DC from your battery and "inverts it" to make A/C. There are several types and sizes ranging from small cigarette lighter plug in models to large 3,000 watt models with a built in transfer switch that can power almost everything in the RV.

A conventional generator (non inverter type) operates at a fixed rpm, generally 3,600 to produce 120V A/C at 60 Hz.

Some years ago starting with the ubiquitous Honda EU 2000i, inverter generators came along. They operate at a higher but variable frequency using more armature poles (400 rpm I think) for efficiency. That high frequency A/C is rectified to make DC and the fed to an inverter just like the ones above to make 120V, 60 Hz power.

The advantages are: better efficiency with the higher frequency first step power generation. And the ability to slow the engine down to match the load to the gas or diesel engine output. This lets the engine work at a more efficient lower rpm for light loads but speed up the engine for heavy loads. It is also quieter at partial loads.

So, I think the OP is talking about the RVMP Flex Power inverter generator.

David

Wait,
I think I've got it.

Cw installed an inverter generator,
Because
CUSTOMER, NOT KNOWING TERMINOLOGY, ASKED FOR THE GENERATOR TO BE SWAPPED TO AN INVERTER GENERATOR.
He did not (or did also) get the simple DC to AC inverter he thought he asked for.
OP needs to post us a work invoice so we can analyze.

Last week someone typed something about a $15,000 battery swap done in Lake Havasu.
Was it this OP?

Jay, show him what he's won!

No, I don't have any issue with the Onan generator. As a matter of fact, I don't feel any difference between Onan and Flex Power. Just curious what happened.

Thanks David for the explenation. I am not a electrician. It's a little over my head, but good information.

Also from the Owner Resources video, the genertor Start/Stop switch should have a red light showing priming status when you press the Stop switch before your Start the generator. My control panel doesn't have that red light. Is that normal?

Also my new rig not 'flex' power it is only connected to run off gas - and not propane. As far as I can figure out?

Sorry forgot the share this with you, I checked with the dealer, they claimed they never replace the generator. I know I discussed several issues with the dealer before AND after I signed the purchase paper. One problem we talked about was the dealer could not remove the front cover of the generator because it's too small for the compartment door. So there are switches inside the cover I cannot operate.

So the mystery deepens.

That's what I suspected. Can anyone tell me what are the differences between Onan 4000 and Flex Power i4000?

Yet you have an OEM key FOB from Thor that starts the generator remotely. Not an Onan feature that I am aware of.
