10 days without electrical hookup

Hello! I am going to do some wild camping in the Nevada desert for 10 days in my Thor Four Winds 28A. I will not have access to a gas station. Any advice on how to best use the aircon and generator each day and how much extra fuel I should carry in the RV would be greatly appreciated

The best advice I can give you is to practice in your driveway to see how it goes and what to expect.

Assuming you have an Onan QG 4000, it uses 0.5 gph at half load, and running one A/C unit and misc additional loads will be close to half load. In Nevada in August, I suspect the A/C will run full time except for maybe 8 hours at night which may be half load.

So, 10 days with 16 hours per day at 100% plus 10 days at 50% for 8 hours per day, gives you a total fuel consumption of roughly 100 gallons which is probably several times your gas tank capacity less 25% for most installations.

So, either bring a bunch of gas cans or run your A/C less. You could probably get by by running the A/C only 8 hours at night, but just barely due to the cool down load each night which could easily be an hour or two at 100%.

So many unknown variables.
When
Where
Planned Activities

You shouldn't need to run the A/C at night
Figure 10 hours a day if you're just vegging in the MH
That's 100 hours at 1/2 gallon/hour or 50 gallons.

Go in with a full tank and 2 extra 5 gallon cans which you probably won't use, depending on your closest gas station.

Good advice would be to regard how much water you'll need and where you'll dump your tanks.

10 days is not a stretch of time for a novice to tackle in the desert with such unknowns as you unknow.

Truer words never spoken.

I'm just hoping they are going with an experienced group of RVers.

Agree...!! LOL. This thread could go on 10 pages...you'll need a 16' cargo trailer to haul all the advice and opinions. Basics...plenty of water and purchase a Champion 3400 or bigger portable generator with 20+ gallons of gas. This will run one A/C, one microwave and one converter or charger to keep batteries charged...but only one of tjese at a time. If nothing else it will serve as a back up.

what time of the year?
I can't imagine wanting to go sit in the boonies and listen to the genny running non stop all day.
If it were me, I'd go a time of year when the AC wouldn't be needed much if at all.... get some shade and run fans if needed....planning to run the genny perhaps no more than an hour or so each day just to top up the batteries if you don't have solar, maybe cook dinner, and perhaps cool down the house a bit for a wind down break and to make falling asleep a bit easier.... then by then it would be cool enough outside for open windows and no AC.

In Pueblo Colorado our 13.5 AC could barely keep up. We had electric hookup... would have required constant generator. No bueno for us.

Near Mt. Elbert now... 72° and sunny right now... Upper 40s at night. Our cup of tea.

We have done 7 days Corpus Christi no water or electric. Humid.
The solar & inverter & maxair fan really helped.
It was hot so when a little cool opened windows.
Setup CLAM on the beach.
Went anytime.
Used canned food we spiked..I am a cook.
Good luck.

There was a day when we did that crap in a tent...lots of other things too! LOL. Nowadays it's A/C and convenience. It took me a while to realize everybody on this forum isn't as old as me. If it feels good, do it. Jist make sure your coach will crank when you've had enough.

Gritz - I never experienced home OR car AC until after high school. We fished/camped in canvas tents on gravel river banks... no cots. The difference? We didn't know any different... it was the norm.

If I slept on the ground now I wouldn't be able to walk for days! The memory foam topped mattress with "climate control" is our new norm.

I've realized the OP isn't from the west and also has no RV experience.
He might not realize what 117° at 3% humidity is, or does.
And
I've realized he probably won't be doing it anytime soon so weather may not be as big of a factor and ac might not be needed at all.

But, the post is almost totally worthless to us/him as posted.
Standard, single post never to check back, type fare.

The Mohave is nothing to play with.
Pick the wrong day to have to walk out and you won't make it three miles before dying.

If you tell me where and when you'll be there and there's a fair chance I know every rock and lizard in that area and IF you should complete your plan.

There should be an automatic deletion of any thread that asks a question if the OP doesn’t respond after three days. AI should be able to do that, right.

I waste half my time following these orphan threads on this and other similar sites.

Well it hasn't been 3 days but I agree with the frustration caused by "Drive-By" posters. For further context about the OP here is his other post:

Can anyone recommend a safe and reputable storage solution for the RV when I am not using it in the USA? Ideally within 50 miles of San Francisco, but not essential.

I guess the storage solution would need to include somebody turning over the engine every month, firing up the generator and recharging the batteries etc?

Thanks,
