Portable propane tank??

Has anyone come up with a way to use portable propane tanks? I'm living full time and don't want to disconnect everything and repack to get propane filled.

When I was full-timing I had a 60lb tank on a two wheel dolly, got the tank at Lowes. I plumbed a "T" in ahead of the regulator with a valve. Went to Camping World and got a 10' hose to connect tank to "T". When I needed propane I just wheeled the tank over to the filling station, filled, and hooked back up. Worked great, did 4 winters that way.

There are a couple of kits available that allow hooking a portable tank into the RV propane system. Extend a Stay and Stay Longer are two of them. They are both available at Amazon and other retailers.

I added a stay-a-while adapter from CW! Approx $40.00. In the bay next to my propane tank, I placed a 40 gal propane tank and routed the hose through to the tee. I secured the tank to the wall of the bay with screw in rings and bungee cords. I will attemp to post pics.

This pic shows the tank secured to the wall of the bay, behind the wall is the coach propane tank. If would keep the main tank closed and use the small tank for short trips. And both if we were on the road for extended trips.

That's a 40# bottle that holds 7 gallons, just to clarify.

I stand corrected, the 7 gallon portable tank connects to my 26 gal coach tank!

Ours has enough extra hose that I plan on just disconnecting from the frame mounted tank and connect to a 20# we always carry if needed.

Thanks to you all. Great info! I was not looking forward to stowing everything and unhooking to get propane. I was told by the local suppliers that if it is on wheels they can't deliver due to safety hazards. Of course, if you drive in they can fill you up - go figure.

The RV park I winter in has a company that comes in weekly for anyone needing propane... They go to the list of sites from the office that requested. Convenient - but the most expensive tank of propane I've ever bought... lol... (about 3x what I normally paid.)

Now have the Extend a Stay and a 20lb tank to replenish if needed...
(1st winter I never needed to fill... but last winter I did...)
