Power cord locking nut difficulty

The power cord locking nut on our Windport is very difficult to secure. Always has been. It takes me forever to get it started and not cross thread it. Am I doing something wrong? Should be simple right? Is there a trick to it? I tried cleaning and lubricating it etc. seems like the threads are too fine. A coarser thread would be better. Any suggestions?

Thanks

I really hate to say this...
But I have absolutely no strength in my hands anymore, and even less dexterity.

Use a bit of dry lube on the threads, and get an extra set of eyeballs on it; making sure that it is lined-up okay...

Good luck!

Is that an opinion or observation?

We also have a Windsport, 2018 29 m, so it's new, not worn out. It has been frustrating to get the collar to thread as well for me. Just go slow and turn counterclockwise a little before you try to tighten it. Just a poor design but not worth spending money on I'm until it breaks, really don't need it anyhow!!

The plastic nut on my cord first started to come off the plug all together. After putting it back on many times it broke. I have not been using the nut for over a year with no problems. The plug part on mine is also a twist lock.

Thanks for the replies. Good to know I am not alone with this difficulty. I thought I might be missing something.

When you put it THAT way:

And it's not as if I've even got a choice in the matter...

Heck...I just leave the cap off! If it's raining, then I make a futile attempt at it.

Look at it closely when unplugged from coach. Sometimes it can "slip a cog" and actually be one thread crooked in the rested position...sorta off center from the collar. Previous TT did this and every time I had to rock the assembly back and forth to get the threads to line up. New coach does just fine...I "plug and twist" to seat it, then spin the collar "backwards" a couple rounds before turning it the correct direction. You'll feel the threads sorta fall into place...then it just spins right on.

It is what it is. Like so many things in life. A soft touch and patience are required. Sometimes it takes a while to come to that realization.

Question: Is there any advantage at all in having a detachable cord?

It seems to me that if it's permanently attached: it's one less thing to go wrong...

I have yet to use that lock ring in three years. My earlier coach didn't have that. The cord is turned a little to lock it in, and isn't likely to fall out without spinning that lock ring. At least mine never has.

Your results may vary...

I haven't used that locking ring in our three years with our Vegas. My previous coach had the same type of plug without the lock ring, and it never came out. The plug turns a little after you push it in, and that has held it just fine so far.

Your results may vary...

I put the locking ring on about 2 or 3 turns; leave it kind of loose.

Agree Jamie! I just think if it's not screwed on tight, less damage will occur if I take off in a hurry still plugged in....

Go to your local plumbing supply and buy some silicone grease. Apply a little grease to the threads every 4-6 months, not to much, just enough to lubricate. Makes threading the collar on a lot easier!
