Power Transfer Switch

My Transfer Switch is making a humming sound when either on shore power or generator power. Making it impossible to sleep. Why would they put that under the bed. Is it time to replace it?

Is the transfer switch humming or is the converter fan running? How old is the unit?

What EAT37S said.....

Depending on the model you have, it is likely the Converter and not the transfer switch.

The WFCO Converters used are cheap. I replaced mine with a Progressive Dynamics that had a bettwr charging profile and a variable speed cooling fan.

The only noise your transfer switch shoidl make is the relays engaging and that is only when voltage is applied.

Transfer switches (relays) buzz because the two metal armatures are not 'sealing up' tight together. Normally dirt finds it's way into the relay. If an AC relay does not 'seal up', it's coil will draw extra current and a shorter life.
