Powered Shade for Skylight

Our powered shade covering the front skylight started pulling away from the ceiling in our 2019 Compass 24TF. Thor initially said we could order larger mounting screws, but a call yesterday indicated they don’t carry parts used in manufacturing the coach. To avoid weeks or months of delay at Campers World, we removed the cover held by four screws. Upon inspection, one of the other four screws holding the shade to the ceiling was attached to only plastic, not to wood in the ceiling. An additional screw seated in the wood backing helped to solve the problem. Now we can go RV’ing. Yeah!!!

Congratulations on the self improved improvement. It's a giant step in the right direction.

But
You weren't really going to order a screw from Thor were you?

I am having what I assume to be similar problem (see photo) where one screw has given way. I've tried to screw it back in but it is not biteing into anything. Having seen yours off entirely, do you have a suggestion as to how I should tackle this? Pull out existing and try to match with larger diameter or ?

This is an old carpenters trick when the hole for the screw is too large.

I like to use a chopstick (wood or plastic), whittle down end so it’ll fit in tight inside the screw hole (after removing screw)

I generally use wood glue. But silicone or gorilla glue works fine.

Then place the adhesive on the stick, insert desired distance so it’s a tight fit, and let dry.
Finally, snip-off the stick so it’s flush at the base

And now you have a hole that’ll grip tightly for your screw.

Thanks for your response taylorbob1.
It is still holding on to something. It just won't tighten up. It just spins when I turn it and does not come out. I could force it out and then try your suggestion of adding wood and glue. Always worried about creating a bigger problem;-) but I'll give it a try!
