Refrigerator question

Hi all
Newbie here with a question about our 2 way absorption fridge. We keep our rig at a storage facility with no power available. If we turn the fridge on the day before a trip so it will cool with propane will it drain the house batteries (dual 12v)?

Welcome to our virtual RV Park!
If your batteries are in good shape: you'll be good to go!
(Assuming that you've got enough propane also... )

That's the way I do it. Dual 12v's in a good state of charge will carry you through.

Yes! That's as it was designed! Set it to "auto", it'll be cooling as you travel, no need to switch again til back in storage, as soon as you plug into shore power it will switch over to electric.
There are however a couple steps to insure your batteries aren't dead during storage.
The "use/store" switch DOES NOT totally disconnect the batteries & they'll be dead in about a week due to parasitic drains such as the CO/LP detector. The best & most sure way to disconnect the batteries is to remove the negative cable from the battery that goes directly to ground or remove the batteries & place them in your garage on a battery tender.
So be sure the switch is in "use" mode, batteries are reconnected & propane tank open before starting the fridge.

Related question....I have a 1000w inverter that I hardly ever use. Thinking about wiring my Norcold absorption fridge to it so I can leave the propane off when traveling. Any reason NOT to do this? The inverter is very concerto the fridge and it has an automatic transfer switch so it’ll switch back over to shore power as soon as it’s available. And, of course I can still run it on propane for boondocking or the aforementioned predeparture cool-down.

If you wire it correctly and that's what you want to do, why not? Find cavie and have a conversation. If nothing else, you'll learn a lot.

Good luck and post the result.
