Florida had an annual inspection program decades ago done by state workers in state facilities but In 1981, then-Gov. Bob Graham and the Legislature halted motor vehicle inspections after complaints about long lines at state-run inspection stations.
I knew I could never live in Virgina when I saw the signs saying Radar Detectors were NOT allowed. Without my radar detector, how would I know when to slow down: so I wouldn't be speeding

Of course I don't use radar detectors anymore in favor of Waze, but it would not surprise me one bit if using the Waze App was illegal in Virginia too.

If it were me (for Texas), If vehicle is less than 7 years old, you should be able to renew every year with no inspection required. After 7 years, owner has option to pay 1, 2 or 3 years based on a current approved inspection.
