Registration Fee for Class A in your Home State

I know there are different variables in the totality of the registration fee for a comparable motorhome in other states. Just want to have an idea on how much others are paying for their Class A from their home state.

Ours is a 2021 THOR ACE 33.1. We received a bit of a rebate from the other RV we traded last year. This year is the first year we are paying Full Amount for our registration renewal for a whopping $2,499 (NV).

Is that just registration or registration and tax?

Most states list their fees on line so you should be able to google the info.

Virginia 60.00 for registration. 3000.00 for annual personal property tax which varies by county. Getting ready to register in SC.

What was the licensing fee on your purchase contract?
In Arizona registration on used vehicles is based on msrp.
$65k vehicle was $1,400 due to msrp being much higher.

There is an itemized breakdown on my renewal card I received yesterday. I will check it when I get home today. When I first registered it last year, the NV DMV used the MSRP as a basis for the registration fees.

Just can't wrap my head around this personal property tax thing... none in Ohio, but it exists in the Hillbilly state next door.

I pay a property tax on real estate each year, but everything else is only taxed twice... the money I buy things with is taxed when it's transferred to me, then again when I make a purchase with that same money... or what's left of it.

I can't imagine paying a personal tax AGAIN on a vehicle I already own!! I think I'd be bleeding from my ... if that was the case.

It's the same with "Homeowner Association" fees. We are responsible, take care of our house... and don't want someone telling us we can't park our (Meguiar's waxed) motorhome in the back yard, or wear green shirts on Thursday...

...done with "Proud American" rant.

$47.50 a year for registration in Florida, no Personal Property Tax.

Initial purchase add $225 for the tag (if not transferring a tag from another vehicle and 6% of the difference between what you paid for the MH minus any trade-in allowance.

No annual gouging in Florida.

I thought Michigan was really high, but I guess there are worse places, and there is no annual luxury tax here (yet)!
Here license fees are initially based on MSRP and go down some each year. For my 2020 Hurricane 29m which we bought used in 2019 it was:

2019=$1004
2020=$780
2021=$704

Insurance is a big expense here, based somewhat on zip code. Full coverage from Progressive for the year starting now = $873

In Tennessee a tag cost me $60 a year. Initial purchase was taxed at 7.5% of the purchase price minus the value of the trade in. Of course there are the usually registration and license fees on the initial purchase that amount to about $300. There are no taxes after the initial purchase and Tennessee does not have a personal property tax like many other states. Many snowbirds maintain an address in Florida, purchase their motorhome in Florida, and keep the registration in Florida because it is so costly in their home state.

Here in TX the yearly registration fee is bases on the vehicle's weight. I happen to be in the 10,001 to 18,000 lb class which puts the yearly registration fee at $115. Interestingly diesel powered RVs pay an additional 11% over the same weight RV with a gas engine.

Nv is based on MSRP, every year, though it goes down a little each time with depreciation The first time was $8800 sales tax plus registration fee of $1450, last year was $492.

Washington state is pretty similar, sales tax at purchase is 8.9%. Then just the normal vehicle registration.

Then just the ANNUAL vehicle registration. Lots of State revenue from the 9% sales tax on vehicles and ridiculous annual registration on all licensed / plated vehicles, trailers, utility trailers, boat trailers, motorcycles, motorhomes, scooters, on and on and on.

"It's the same with "Homeowner Association" fees. We are responsible, take care of our house... and don't want someone telling us we can't park our (Meguiar's waxed) motorhome in the back yard, or wear green shirts on Thursday..."

The rest of our HOA board (I'm on the board) didn't want any RVs parking in our "Village". I asked last year when we were seriously considering buying a Class C. They said absolutly not. The board tried to update our Covenants this year and one of the things they wanted to add was no RV or trailers on any home owner's property. It hadn't been in there. We just purchase our 2015 Vegas this week. I texted the rest of the board. This time I didn't ask if I could park it on my property. I asked if the Covenants prohibited it. They don't. They hadn't been able to get 67% of the votes to approve any of the changes (but that's a separate story). I established that they couldn't stop me. They were whining about it. My Vegas is pretty obvious since my house is the first one when entering the village and I have it parked in my short driveway front end out. They were worried because they made someone down the street move her boyfriend's RV. After letting them whine a bit I told them about my Florida community's policy of filing an application for temporary parking. I suggested that we vote for a policy to allow parking for an RV for up to seven days with an application approved by the board. They jumped on it. I told them that I will even put together the application. I already had permission to park mine on a friend's property about a mile away. I would have parked it there right away but I wanted to do a few things first. And, before I park it in the field behind her house I want to change all the outside compartment locks. There's a campground a quarter mile down the road from her house.
