Branch/Hole in Roof – What are the chances

I was out of town, my wife woke up to this. What are the odds of a branch falling straight down? Already contact insurance, guess I need to winterize this weekend because who knows how long it will be in the shop. They saw pictures and stated I will need a new rood because a patch will never work. That’s good, I get a whole new rood on a 2018, bad news ... they will have to remove everything up there and hopefully install properly. Thankfully they do great work. Worst part, pole barn for storage will be completed in about 1 month…. Dam that limb just couldn’t wait a few more weeks.

Ouch.

When we first picked up our 5th wheel (picked it up on Oct and it went straight into storage for the winter) we got a bullet through the roof. Took it out of storage in April and noticed on the inside a hole in the ceiling:

On the top it was a tiny little hole:

For that insurance replaced the entire membrane on the roof and the interior panel (ok dealer did it). Looked good as new after the repairs were done and no leaks in the roof for 10 years...

Sorry to see that you've got to deal with this!
But the good news is that you'll get a completely new roof out of it!
Will they be repairing it while you've got it stored for the Winter?
(That would be the best case scenario!)

new roof, new insulation, new ceiling. Be sure they get every bit of the wet insulation out.

Yes and agree, best case from a bad situation. We are making lemonade out of lemons... and adding some tequila!

In the interim, get some flex seal tape. It'll come off when they replace the roof. In the meantime, it'll prevent moisture from entering so as not to ruin the rest of your rig.

Blessing you were not in it at the time or away on a trip. Many years ago we were on a trip when a freak storm came up and damaged several rigs in the park, we were lucky.

Sorry to hear about your damage. The same thing almost happened to me last year. I built a level crushed stone pad among some poplar trees on my property to set up my Windsport. Nice shady spot close to a creek that waters much wildlife. A friend and experienced camper advised me to check the canopy of trees for widow makers before I parked there. I thought that was a good idea. That night we had unusually high winds and heavy rain. The next morning I found a 7 inch diameter limb on the ground across the pad. Probably would have smashed my rear A/C unit if I had been parked there. Now I check all trees that I park near.

When we had our pad put down: we first took down four trees that could have been troublemakers...
