E-Bike carrier/rack
Hello Thor family hope all r safe. We purchased (2) 70lbs Rad Runner plus e-bikes and now we r having difficulties finding a carrier/rack for our hitch. There r plenty thay accommodate our per bike weight but "Experts" warn against specific carriers/racks due to distance from rear axel some r RV rated for whatever thats worth. Question is has anyone in the community faced this issue or have expertise to guide us to the proper equipt. We have a 2015 Thor Miramar 34.2.
Thanks as always
-Carlos

Hollywood RV Rider. Rated for the weight and approved for use on 5th wheels, travel trailers and towed vehicles. Most are not.

Our Lectric XPs weigh 60 lbs each, I take the batteries out which drops it to 50 Lbs.
We use the Swagman XC2 Hitch Rack:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0001VO1YY
It is not sold as anything but a hitch rack; no E-Bike endorsement, no RV endorsement. And actually not made for fat tire bikes. They want to sell you fat tire carries for more money. I just stretched the standard carriers with some brute force.
So far, so good.

We use a hitch mounted cargo carrier to carry 2 110lb mopeds. Carrier is rated for 600 lbs though in our case that is reduced by half because we use a hitch extension. Still plenty of capacity. Bikes are secured by their front wheels, tied down and tied together with a secure upright between them. Very secure and maybe even overkill.[ATTACH]26303[ATTACH]26304[ATTACH]26305

Added a light bar so when the bikes are covered I still have lights visible.

In my pic the inside XP is a step-through: no additional crossbar required.

I'd go with Pete's solution. Skip the wheel chocks - put in a couple of 2x4s to make the right width tracks.
And if you feel energetic get the ratcheting center post and bike retainers from swag or similar and fabricate it to the center of the carrier. You'd be good to go.

Do your batteries come out? Saved me 15lbs for our set of ebikes when I put them on bike rack.

Carlos, we have a '17 Axis 25.2 motorhome and we purchased a 1Up 2" Super Duty Double Bike Rack for our 2 RadRunners, which is more than strong enough to handle the load. You will need to purchase two 1Up Wide Tire Accessories as well because the RadRunner bike tires are very wide.
Besides the wide tire modification kits, we also added Dollar Store pool noodles to the vertical arms that hold the bikes in position so that the bike doesn't get scratched and a trailer light kit so that there is ABSOLUTELY NO QUESTION where the back of my motorhome is to any following vehicles.
Here's the link:

We have a Swagman ebike rack that we slide into the receiver using a bolt the company sends specifically for RV use. We have had no problems so far.

May I interrupt tread to ask how you protect hub motors?
My DASH 3-500 watt motor seized after a stretch or rotten weather.
Disassembled and cleaned to no avail. Much corrosion.

I don't know how you would get any data on limits, but not only is your rear axle sensitive to total weight, there is the fact that it serves as the axis for a rotational moment. The greater the distance any added weight is from the axle, the more torque it applies, which tends to lighten the front end and can affect steering. Think of the adjustment the kids make with a see-saw, to counterbalance one another. Or think of a torque wrench...it measures in foot pounds, which is the torque generated by a linear force of one pound applied using a one foot lever arm. You can double the torque by doubling the force OR by doubling the length of the lever. Archimedes supposedly said that given a fulcrum and a long enough lever he could move the earth.
