Replace LED awning lights

Have a 2019 Thor Chateau. Noticed a few burned out lcd’s but was of little concern. (note:that’s when you should order replacement) Next time out, didn’t turn in at all. Upon closer inspection, several lcd’s showed signs of burn out, maybe even overheating and melting the top covering. Trying to remove the strip from the channel proved impossible due to the melted covering, or glue from previous replacement maybe? In any case, the channel was held in place by self tapping sheet metal screws that were screwed into the side at whatever odd angle the installer held the screw fun without moving his ladder. The replacement strip came with clips with tiny screws and 3M adhesive. Originally used 15 screws but came with 10 clips that would not accommodate the original larger screws. I reamed out the hole so the screws fit. I first screwed in the first 2 in front with clips just enough to hold the strip skipped a clip and screwed in just a screw and put in 2 more clips. Making sure it was straight, I then removed the 3M backing at the front, holding the strip in the front and the backing slipped off leaving the strip stuck straight and in place.
Continued like that down the side and was pleasantly surprised how straight it turned out.
Be sure to clean where the strip goes. Sticks really well so no worries of falling off.

Thanks for the post! I need to replace the strip on my 2015 ACE 30.1. Which replacement strip did you buy?

This is the one I installed on my RV 1&1/2 years ago. Straight white, but you can get creative and install a multi-color strip that is controlled by a remote control - plenty to choose from on the jungle site.

Oh I see. My LEDs are on the far end of the awning. Maybe ones tucked up under on the wall of the camper would be better!

So yours are in the awning roller. Mine were as well. My last TT had them there as well. They are prone to burn out individual and eventually all LEDs, especially if accidentally left on while the awning is rolled up. Forget those and replace with a strip on the wall below the awning. Better light and can be used without the awning extended.

A note about those strip lights. When a few LEDs go out, the entire strip is compromised and usually the rest fail in a short time. Often one or more of the resistors fail... then it's a chain reaction of over voltage and excessive heat causing the rest to fail. So... if a few lights are out, may as well get on the jungle site and order a new one... they're one of the cheaper "fixes" on a motorhome. Just keep a roll of 3M VHB tape on hand.

Review on Amazon: Great replacement for my under-awning LED strip on my Forest River Salem camper. https://a.co/d/ikGOtjZ

I purchased an LED Awning strip for my Palazzo on EBAY. Did the replacement twice of the OEM on my old fifth wheel. The ones I got on EBAY were brighter and never failed.
