Retractable shade

First RV — 2 months. And I’m far from being young! Question: 2021 Thor Chateau. Does the retractable shade have an automatic function which retracts the shade if wind picks up?

Welcome to the forum!
Good question; with an unclear answer...
Some do, and some don't.
Did you look in your pile of paperwork for a description of it's operation?

I do have that feature, but if it seems like the wind is picking up I always retract it. I don't want to depend on it re-tracking on it's own. I don't want to have it damaged from the wind.

Yup! My personal "wind sensor" always pulls the awning in; before the awning itself decides to retreat...

My Hurricane has the auto retract feature but if I hear the awning flap, I put it in. I also put it in if I leave the campsite for any reason.

My 32T is supposed to have it but I've always retracted it before the sensor has ever kicked in. Not sure how reliable it is if I've never even seen it activate.

Does it have adjustable sensitivity? The one on my SOB does and when set to it’s most sensitive it’ll come in at the thought of a breeze!

With the awning extended take a broom and bounce the awning up and down a few times, if it retracts you have a auto retract. That said we always retract ours when it begins to flap and always when we leave the coach.

When the patio awning is out, hit the front end of the roll (the end with the sensor and motor) twice in rapid succession and the awning will retract. Carefree uses a movement (inertia) sensor and not an anemometer to judge when to retract the awning. Plant 750 wires the motor's controller directly to the 15 amp fuse in the power center. So, anytime the coach has power (shore, generator or battery), it will retract the awning if the movement sensor is triggered. There is a upgrade sensor that can adjusted for movement available directly from Carefree.

I don't believe your Solera Awning is self retracting. Here's your manual:

I gave mine a good shake on my XG-32 and it rolled right up. So that would let you know for sure.

If your rig is automated (firefly) you may not have a wind sensor. We tried adding one to our rig and carefree told us and the dealer that for it to work the awning had to be removed from the automated system and required with two separate switches, one for power and one for operation. Carefree was supposedly working on something compatible.
