Road Courtesy - NOT

https://youtu.be/zJi6wWOrdwc

The link takes you to a YouTube video I posted today. If you drive the highways and Biways of America you will eventually run into (no pun intended) a nutcase like Mr Rooter in the video. Luckily the DW and I are still around to talk about it.
Watch til the end. Doesn't get much closer than this.
BTW, I was driving a 37 ft Miramar and towing a car. Surrounded by traffic in a cloverleaf.

Give his plate to the Police, and show them the video.
Then: call his Company.

As for what I might have done: I'd have slowed a bit, and given him some room.

But that's just me.

I'd have slacked off the gas and let him in, by muscle memory without a thought of rights and yield.

While it's his job to yield its your job to take control if he doesn't.
Control would have been:
'he's not yielding. I can let him in or I can piss off some guy who plays with poop all day and is not loving life from the comfort of a MotorHome.'
And I'd let him in and he'd be gone, and probably give you a polite wave because you made him a hole.

It's a compromise this driving thing.

Cutting you off?
Pretty not cool.
Tit for tat.

Some might think you tatted....

What will you do the next time you're in the same situation?
Did his negative action have a positive affect?

Yeah, easy to say. Without having the advantage of the rear view with a semi right on my ass, I guess you could say I should have probably braked. The problem with on ramps is that people don't see that yield sign. They feel its a given that someone is going to move over. Not always the case when you are in heavy traffic and there is a van on your left side.
But hey, good luck to you when you get caught in that situation. Tit for tat.

Thumbs up

Bruno I agree with you people don't understand merge or yield. You had traffic behind you and on the side no place to go. He could of slowed down, it what would of cost all of 5 seconds. Nice video I would send a copy to Mr. Rooter company and ask if this is company driving policy.

Chances are good the company has a Facebook page. Post it there and send a copy to the corporate headquarters.

Driving south on I-75 I had a Target truck come into my lane from the left lane and miss the front of my coach by less than a foot and only due to my braking. This was not a road-rage event but inattentive/poor driving on his part. As he went down the road weaving he almost took out a class C MH as well. We got his trailer numbers and thought we had it on dashcam (turned out the SD card was corrupted so it ws not recorded).

First my wife called FHP and reported the erratic and dangerous driving. Then my wife got on the phone to Target corporate who had the president of the contracted trucking company call us back within 15 minutes to get the full information. About an hour later we got a call back from the president telling us the driver had been located and grounded.

Hate when that happens! But, per your Garmin you were going 70 MPH in a MH while towing a car. I'd just tell the Rooter company, not the police. May get a ticket for 15 MPH over the limit.

I definitely would report it to the company. In my previous employed life, I worked in administration of a local government and received many calls regarding employees in official vehicles doing all kinds of idiot stuff. When a car number and location were provided, it was appropriately dealt with, as it should be. The liability is too great to ignore negligence.

I agree: get them off the road before someone gets hurt.

Yes, we've encountered similar things. Our worst was a tractor-trailer rig that didn't like us and wanted us off the road.

A couple other things I noticed: your Garmin showed you were driving 68 mph while the speed limit sign you passed said 60 mph.

The language upon Mr. Rooter off-roading you sounded like what would have come out of my husband's and my mouths.

Anyway, glad you're okay.

I was carefully watching the very beginning of the video.
He was ahead of you initially; but you passed and blocked him.
All you had to do in order to defuse the entire situation would have been to roll off the gas a bit, and let him stay in front..
The big rig behind you wouldn't even have noticed the move.

Exactly.
Op riding the slow/merge lane, 8mph over, blocked the truck.
Still not justification for plumber to brake check him.
Op was wrong as far as I can see, plumber was wrong as far as I can see.

It happens to all of us.
I'm glad all of us don't post them here.
It was a very minor incident.
Op learned a lesson, maybe plumber guy did also.

That is a tough one to call. In a perfect time you could have slowed and allowed him to enter. He could have keep up his speed entering and he would have stayed ahead of you. He still had a lane the entire time except it was an exit lane so he wasn't on the shoulder. Does that justify him brake checking you after cutting you off. I think not. Lucky you were able to go into the dirt and not crash as a result of his behavior. What he does not know was that you could not move over into the next lane and you had another truck on your tail thus not allowing you to brake because that may have caused you being rear ended. This is why we also have a dash cam in our motor home for times like this. I too have been brake checked because of something that I did not create.

Paul

There's no doubt that Rooter's actions are absolutely indefensible.

But also completely avoidable.

First off, by law he yields the right of way! If it were me he would have taken that exit ramp or came damn close to it!
Now for the brake check, realizing you didn’t want to damage your motorhome, just giving him a tap with your bumper gets him to stop and wait for the police to come watch the video write a report, and issue him a ticket for intentionally braking as to cause injury which is a moving violation not to mention a crime!

Now to solve the issue, most dash cams have an option where you can email the video, which is exactly what you should do! You can mail it to corporate with the location and city and they will track him down!!

Talking about this episode in terms of the Law completely misses the impact of common courtesy.
Had he just slowed down a bit: nothing would ever have happened.
Would you rather be in the right... And in the weeds?
This could have resulted in a pretty serious wreck if the road shoulder wasn't relatively level.
I'm not even going to discuss the lunacy of hitting him to force him to stop...

Well, he was doing 57 mph at the merge, below the 65 mph speed limit. He didn't approach 70 mph until well after the intersection and was going with the flow of traffic including the 18 wheeler in the left lane.

He would have had to hit the brakes hard to slow down enough to let the rooter idiot in, completely contrary to his responsibility to maintain a steady speed at the merge and let the merging traffic find their way in.

There was no faulty with the OP's driving - all fault here is with the rooter idiot.
