Roof capacity

What is the roof deck capacity (weight)of a Thor 30FE? I know it is walk-able, but can 3 big guys watch a NASCAR race with lawn chairs and a cooler? Not looking for warranty details, just realistic opinion. I've been up there and it seems really stout, like it could hold us fine.

You probably should call Thor customer service and get their opinion on this...

Roof capacity

I stay off the roof as much as possible other than inspection And maintenance. I don’t even use the coach ladder to go topside. I wouldn’t risk it, not what the roof was designed for.

Nope wouldn't do it. Not worth the risk and the chairs could rip to roof

They make decks you can attach with engineered support. NONE rest upon roof they all mount on posts tied in to frame with deck not touching roof.....Just say’n

Do you have any pictures?
Or better yet: links to more info about these decks?

Kinda like the old VW commercials, "Yes they will definitely float, but not indefinitely!".
Yes you & your buddies can definitely sit up there, just not indefinitely!!!!

I’ve seen them at auto races not sure if they are custom or “store” bought But when I had a TT I was looking at what was possible for a “race” deck every one I looked at was mounted/anchored to side wall with vertical ties to frame.
Can’t figure out why it’s upside down sorry

Three big guys with beer 12' in the air scuffing and poking the waterproof roof surface ... what could go wrong?

There's a thread on here somewhere about a 300+ owner wondering if he could safely get up there.

Next time you're at a race check the other roofs, there should be A LOT of people on them.

What about a couple pieces (maybe 3) of half inch "plywood" cut to manageable widths, this should raise the temporary weight rating, works in my attic
The ac unit looks like a table for chips, dips etc .

I've heard by the rumor mill that's it's 300lbs....well under what you're talking about though Friend had a Newmar and he weighed about 350 and was on the roof often....they found a spot had gotten weak and he had a hole under the covering....guessing 350 was too much???

Your fine with 3 4 gus. Roof is fine and will hold. I suggest put pool noodles on the base of the chairs . Done this a few time at different events.

Enjoy the race

Two inches of heavy foam with 1/2 inch ply and you could get away with it. Spread the weight. Chairs will set points of weight in a couple of inches. Your roof weighting is lbs/sq ft. So spread it out and you will be fine.

We had a older class C el dorado and took it to Pocono many years and had 3 big guys plus a few smaller guys and girls. It held us fine but eventually started to get ruined because of little rips in the roof that led to leaks that led to rot that led to cutting the cab over off, that extended the life a few more years and got some double takes. Bottom line it’s not worth it. Now we don’t let anyone on the roof of our class A.

That is probably the bigger potential problem: damage to the roof covering.

We had an older Winnebago that went to the Rolex 24 one year. The roof held 3 adult men and 3 teenage boys off and on for 24 hours. Next trip out it poured rain and the roof leaked, which lead to a tearing off of the entire roof, rebuilding and installing new roof. Not for the feint of heart. Held up well for a few years until an axle broke and the wheels fell off.

Moral of the story, don't park yourself on the roof unless you've done some serious research, engineering, and construction to spread the weight out. It's not worth the damage risk otherwise.

I wonder of some sort of elevated hunting blind might work?
