RV specific GPS free Mobile apps

Is anybody using any free mobile phone apps for RV specific GPS? The type that you can put in your height, your length, your width, and your weight so you can be directed accordingly? I'm now driving a 38 foot long, 12'7" high, 22,000 pound Super C and I don't wanna take any chances.

Don’t be a cheapskate, buy a Garmin. 👍

Free? No, but there are several paid - either for the App or for the subscription.

You generally get what you paid for.

I want to thank you for your response. It was so very helpful. Maybe you could tell me your favorite kind of cake? I'm trying to avoid having another thing on the dash or hanging from the windshield. My new unit has Android Play So it seems ridiculous not to use it. But again thank you for your extremely helpful response

The guy in this video obviously missed his career in show business and trying to make it up now on YouTube but he does address your question. I watched a few minutes but couldn't take much more. He may have your solution.

If you have Android play (rather than Android auto), there are several apps you can use. Go to the Google Play store and do a search. The good ones will cost.
I really like RV Trip Wizard. It's part of RV Life. Look at the top of this page to see a link. It does cost about $60.00 per year.
My biggest problem with the GPS - I can't figure out how to connect it to Android auto and like you I don't want another device hanging from the dash. I use it to plan our trips - but then switch over to Google maps for turn by turn directions - making sure those directions match what the trip wizard recommends. If not, I'll add a few mid drive stops so we end up on the same route.

Another consideration...GPS works from satellites, apps work from internet or cell service. Don't get caught in the boonies with "no signal".

I use RV Parky to plan my trips overnights. I then use Google Earth to zoom in on gas stations along the route I intend to use get some idea if I can get the MH pulling a car in and out without Houdini type contortions. As far as turn by turn I use the GPS on my I Phone.

I can't argue with the 'buy a GPS' argument, except that Maggie *has* a built in GPS based system, and it doesn't do RV routing.

I went with RV Trip Wizard for $49/year.

It allows you to enter your RV's info and created RV safe routes. It also has a massive database of campgrounds, from Good Sam, to KOA, to Corps of Engineers, and pretty much everything in between. It also has a massive database of gas stations as well. Lots of other fun stuff like allowing you to set your desired daily mileage and showing you a radius for planning purposes, and determining time based on your speed preference.

They now also have a wonderful app that can be used in offline mode by downloading the maps you create on the website. You can also choose to navigate via Apple or Google maps from the RV Life app if you choose.

We love our Garmin. It's has profiles for the RV and our (tow) Jeep, so we travel with one set of maps, one set of 'recent' locations (including where we parked the RV ). Remembering to switch profiles is the only trick. Garmin does a pretty good job with map updates.

We wouldn’t travel without our Garmin RV770, but I agree with you about having a bunch of stuff on the dash. We struggled with mounting it on our dash that is now a type of vinyl, and not smooth. We bought a small piece of plexiglass at Home Depot, and I mounted it onto the dash with the Command picture/frame hanger Velcro hangers. Now our GPS stays mounted securely. I keep the TPMS mounted next to the passenger chair. We use a combination of RV Trip Wizard, and Garmin BaseCamp to plan our trips. BaseCamp is free if you have a GPS, but there is a definite learning curve. It’s not very user friendly. I find Trip Wizard to be more helpful with the details about campgrounds and restaurants. Good Luck, and let us know if you find something that suits your needs.
