A Weigh We Go

We weighed our 2016 Vegas 25.2 today. I recommend everybody should do this. There are two 4 point weigh services in Central Florida that I know of. We used Esca pees in Bushnell, Florida.

Here's the quick answer to the obvious question. Our coach, loaded the way we travel, is very well balanced and within the weight guidelines. The front only varied 50# from side to side, and the rear, 100#.

They recommend to arrive loaded normally for travel, fuel and LPG full, gray and black tanks empty, and water filled, ours was at the normal traveling amount, between 1/3 and 2/3. (Remember, water weighs just over 8 pounds/gal.) My math says, if the water tank was full we would be near the GVWR of 12,500.

To be fair, we loaded 160 pounds of ballast to replace food, clothes, books, etc. That may have been too much. DW and I were up front like normal, and we are average size. If we added another couple and more stuff for 4 people, we would likely have to put the coach on a diet and lose some pounds somewhere.

Your results will vary. We don't cram every storage bin and drawer to the limit. I carry some tools, about 20# worth, a small compressor, and a collapsible ladder. I intend to check the total weight again when we are actually loaded for travel. Longer trips naturally require a bit more.

He also checked the height, which is 11' 1". Add 3" for clearance tolerance. He didn't check air pressures, but suggested I check a chart, using the actual weights, on the Michelin website.

We used the CAT scales at Destination Daytona. It weighed just front and rear and total. Was not able on their scale to do side to side weights. My 28Z was well with my chassis limits with 4 people and gear. Usually just 2 of us, so we are fine. Great idea to weigh your rig.

Rated GVWR Rear: 8500 Ours: 7500
Total Rated GVWR: 12500 Ours: 4850 + 7500= 12350

When we load for a long trip next time, I'll check the total weight again. Not worried about shorter trips, we know we'll be lighter.

We just need to remember to avoid collecting rocks as we travel!

We did the same at a Catscale with all our stuff in it, empty waste, full water and the 3 of us in our 24.1:

Everything full and loaded with the exception of food, our 24.2 weighed in at:
92%/89% front/Rear for a 97% Total (@380lb under GVWR) and 88% of GCVWR with toad.

I assume water being in the far back would leverage some weight off the front.

Thanks for posting. Very interesting weight distribution given the rear slide. I would have expected a little lighter front axle weight for the 25.2.

I saw one of sale with a listed GVWR of 14,500. Wondering if this is a mistake or if they can carry more.

That unit is likely built on the E450 chassis and can carry more than one on the E350.

I'm sure you are correct.

Having said that, it would be useful to know how Ford comes up with the GVWR because on the surface they don't seem to follow a pattern. The E350 versus E450 is a prime example.
