Santa Ana Awning Wipeout

Perhaps I wasn’t clear; the hardware was in place; no strap would have made a difference. The wind came up under the roller tube with such force, it disengaged the cams/locks in the tube. When we first saw it in the mirrors, it was about half way billowed out. By the time we got pulled over it was all the way out and partially ripped from rail.

That sounds like a very bad situation. I now will look at my awning and think up a way to secure it when closed.

A similar thing happened to our slide topper. While driving into the wind east of Palm Springs we could here a popping and thumping noise. We had to stop, level, extend slide, me on the roof assisting the awning roll up while DW retracted slide.
