Hot water when traveling

Stupid question alert......

My Thor Challenger has a tankless hot water heater. Does it run off propane only? How do I get hot water when driving down the road? Do I need to leave my propane tank on?

Assuming you have the Girard tankless hot water heater (but this should apply to all tankless types) which is what I have on my 2021 Axis:

The battery disconnect switch needs to be on to supply controls power to the Girard. The outside on/off switch (inside the outside hatch) needs to be on. And the propane tank needs to be on and all air in the lines flushed out (lighting the stove for a few minutes should do it). If all these are on then the Girard should work, assuming that the water flow is enough to trigger the flow switch in the Girard, about 0.8 gpm or greater.

It should work going down the road just like a propane fridge, but I haven't tried it. But I have to ask, how can you use hot water when safely seat belted?

Well, I did say it was a stupid question. I was just pondering an upcoming long roadie. Thanks for thoughtful response.

Question... would putting an accumulator tank on the input help remedy the "problem" of flow/pressure? Say when you are trying to conserve boondocking water while rinsing dishes, etc.? Or would you still have to blast the water full-on to get the tank to work?

Accumulator tanks just store flow energy to minimize pump cycling. You still need the same flow through the heater for it to sense the flow and turn on.

Thanks. I guess there's advantages and disadvantages to every "new" RV tech.

Happy Sunday Scubawise, quick question we are traveling in our 2018 25.3 Thor Vegas and no water is coming out of any faucets and shower from the hot water side. Any suggestions how I can troubleshoot how to get water to come out the hot water side? Thanks,
Topd

No water at all? Hot side should still send water even if heater off. There is a block in some line

There is water

We have water which is all cold but when I move the faucet to the hot position in the kitchen and bathroom, no water comes out at all on the hot side.

Did you go back and look at the answers on the thread you started on this topic?

All you have to do is turn it on, set the temperature to around 1200 degrees and run the pump to use the on board water tank. The pump should be working well enough to keep the temp steady.

Something else to consider, make sure that your onboard water pump has the necessary pressure to activate the water heater. The pump may need some adjustment.
