Settings for Auto Generator Start

I think (hope) the only thing I haven't checked out on my 2017 Windsport 34J is the auto gen start (AGS). Tailgating season is almost upon us so I need to get a handle on this. I've tried searching for this but didn't really see what I was looking for. We park on campus on Thursday afternoon and then go home and come back Friday afternoon. I need to make sure the fridge runs the whole time. All the settings on the AGS where off (CCW) when I took delivery. Any thoughts on where to set the low voltage and the run time controls to?
Thanx,
Dan

You typically should not let your batteries go below 11 volts. If you set the voltage to 11 on the auto start, the generator will start top them off and you’re good to go.

We use the temperature setting a lot as we have two dogs we can’t take everywhere with us. We keep the windows cracked and the vents open as a fail safe, but the gen auto start has always worked. We set the temperature knob to 76, make sure the thermostat in the rig is in the cool position and the dogs are good to go. When the temp in the rig reaches 76 the generator starts and then the AC comes on. Once the rig is cool it all shuts off.

Love this system. A lot of owners don’t even know it is there.

Here is a link to a PDF with instructions, if you need them.

Check your inverter manual and determine when the inverter goes into the low battery power mode and shuts down. Set the AGS to slightly higher than that level. On the Xantrex 1800 the low voltage alarm sounds at 11 VDC and the low voltage alarm cutoff is 10.5 VDC. Setting the AGS to start between 11.5 and 12 VDC should keep you in operation.

I unplugged the shore power and tried the Auto Gen Start TEST switch - it worked as advertised. I set the low voltage to about 11.8v and the runtime for an hour. 8.5 hours later the generator started just like it was supposed to. However, I noticed that the highest charge to the batteries was 11.98 volts and that the microwave and AC did not work. After an hour it turned off just like it was supposed to. I waited about 10 minutes and cranked the generator up - still no power to microwave and AC. I turned off the generator and plugged in to shore power and every seems fine. Anyone have any idea what's going on?
Thanx,
Dan

When you were running the generator did you try turning off the inverter and then running the AC and Micro. Possibly the inverter circuit is overriding power to the other circuits when the inverter is on.

- Voltage = ~11.8
- Shore Max button = 50(or 40 if not offered, depending on your size Generator)
- Run Time = 1 hour
- LBCO setting = 11.0(cuts off the Inverter from depleting the batteries if the AGS cannot start the Generator, such as if the fuel level falls below 1/4)

just suggestions, but experience is the best teacher

(and make sure the Generator breaker is not tripped, otherwise the generator will run for nothing, giving no power to the Charger)

A one hour charge is not enough to bring batteries to a full state. Recommended is 2 hour minimum from everything I have read. If you search forum you will find a lot of information regarding this.

Thanks for the info. I really wasn't trying for a full charge, just trying to check it out and make sure it worked (which it did). The problem is that a breaker on the generator tripped when the AGS turned it on. I got shanghaied into a honeydew project so haven't had a chance to get back to it.
Thanx,
Dan

Do you have the AGS (Automatic Generator Start) option and is it turned on? If so it will start automatically based on the inside temperature of your coach.

We hope we are some of those owners who don't even know it is there. Where should we look?

Why does it start if we’re connected to shore power?

Had/Have the same issue. Generator started four times in one evening while hooked to SP. AGS was set to "OFF." Removed 'remote' switch and problem has not reoccurred. Was hoping you had found another solution.

Thanks
