Shore Power with Open Ground

First of all the open ground has been corrected..... So I put my Thor Freedom Elite 22 foot class C in storage and plugged in the shore power cord and the surge protector indicated 'open ground'.I thought that would be good enough to maintenance charge the house battery. Two days later the battery was totally drained. And anything !!5 volts plugged into the camper outlets would not work. Checked breakers. Not tripped. Looked under the seat at transfer switch and the 'open ground' light was on there also. Plugged into correctly grounded circuit and all is good even the 115v outlets work. The ground wire is not only for safety but necessary for correct function.

Because your "surge protector" won't pass the hot and neutral legs through with an open ground. It's part of that protection thing it's there for.

Bypass the surge protector and all the AC items should work. Some surge protectors have a "bypass mode" switch to do that.
