You don't think a simple compass app on your phone is good enough?

What's wrong with the compass built into your GPS? That's actually truer than anything you can probably buy, hooked to satellites you know. With all of the add-on stuff people have stuck to their dashboards and windshield, who is really watching the road and doing the driving? If you look for those little signs on the shoulder of the road they will tell you which way you are going.

When we are on country roads unmarked. Don’t want to have phone on and out all the time. Have that compass app it is very good unfortunately compass not built into electronics of Mercedes Sprinter. Just a personal thing on back roads knowing some what direction we are going passes the time. Thanks

Make sure that the compass you buy can be "adjusted", in order to deal with all of the metal that will be around it. I've seen name brand pieces, that couldn't deal with the fact that they were sitting in a car with a big hunk of metal under the hood...

Ducky,
That would look AMAZING on the dash of your rig!

People will always look up to you: if you at least look as if you know what you're doing!

I had the same motivation and purchased this one. I found it very helpful although I was never able to find a location that was completely free of magnetic interference. Not accurate enough to fly a plane by but really helpful for driving. I left it in the coach when I traded it and miss it enough that I’m considering buying again. I do rather hate to clutter up the dash with “stuff” but sometimes it’s worth it.

A pretty fair amount of GPS apps will offer you an idea of your direction...
Look for an app designed for hikers, hunters, and ATVers.

In this day and age it's a doodad, a Hawaiian dancer or bobble head dog or fuzzy dice.

Thanks
Do they make a compass with an Hawaiian Dancer. That would be
Great!

I deleted that post.
As someone who has six monitors going at once, my comment seemed a little unthought.

I guess I wanted to address the luddite/decorative nature of such a thing as a magnetic compass and not the actual function as a tool.

I will, now that you've all inspired me, build such a thing as a Hawaiian doll riding a bobble head dog with a compass and a traffic light lens(ever seen one?).

It'll take me while to gather the goods, but maybe we'll make it a
'most technology, misused' prize at the California spring meet up.
(in which case I'll likely be the winner, so I'll just keep it and cut out the middle man)

I haven't seen a traffic light lens in 40 years. We bought my dad one for Christmas one year, he left it in the car when he traded. That thing was handy when the traffic lights were hung in the middle of the intersection and there was only one light.

Are you sure there isn't on somewhere in you instrument cluster? Possibly in your entertainment panel?

I agree. Ours is a 2017 Citation on a 2016 Sprinter chassis. No compass built in. I usually have my iPhone connected to the in-dash unit with the dual-mirror option turned on so I can see Google Maps on a bigger screen in landscape mode. Google maps has a compass 🧭 showing north. (Always have the route planned with RV Trip Wizard and loaded into Google maps.) I alternate between the map and the rear camera to check our towed vehicle, mostly to keep an eye on latest traffic ahead and our ETA.
