Slow Tire Pressure Loss

Since buying my ACE new i have experienced a very very slow tire leak in the outbd RHS tire. I would loose about 1 lb a day average. After many months of refilling the tire prior to a camping trip, bottles of soapy water spray, I decided it must be in the valve stems or the valve stem extender.

First i removed the outer most shrader valve and gave the internal core 1/2 turn. Let it sit and still had the loss. I then tried the inner valve behind the chrome wheel cover. As i got my fingers in there to remove the extender valve flex hose....the outer valve threaded cover was loose! This was un detectable with soapy water spray.

I removed the entire extender, cleaned and tightened the inner core. Secured tightly and problem solved. Ya just cant give up.....I would also suggest a TPMS system, this will monitor pressure and tire temperature during your drive. I look at this every 1/2 hr or so as part of my driving instrument scan.

I average 82 PSI cold and in the 90's during driving. The tire temps are about 30 deg C hotter than ambient. 28 C = 82 F.

Good for you.
You will find the more mechanical items you have the more chances of an issue.
Persistence paid off.

After installing the TPMS, I have more peace of mind. Knock on wood... I rarely need to add pressure during travel season.

I'll see how they fared over the winter in a few days...

Also check valve core they can corrode, just need to carry a couple of cores and tool to replace them. Also if you have a tire pressure monitoring system, the sensor can get hit by a stone or other object and crack causing a slow leak.
