Smallest NEW Class A Diesel Floorplan?

Currently who makes the smallest length Class A New Diesel Pusher?? I thought Tiffin had a 28ft but think discontinued.

Tiffin does claim to have the smallest on the market.

With traditional heavy-duty inline drivetrains, making them shorter reportedly affects handling too much because front suspension ends up without enough load.

They're not packing as much engine back there behind the wheels...

Yeah Tiffin has a small one but I have seen a few others around the 34 foot mark recently. I think some manufactures are finding a need for a smallish DP lately. Personally I thing that 32 to 35 foot is a sweet spot for class A's (DP or Gas).

It was hard to find one that actually measured shorter than 35', which is one of the reasons we ended up with the Palazzo 33.2 (34'7" actual). It helped we loved the floor plan and the RV has been "just right" for us!

Yeah I like that floor plan too. How is the power on the highway? 300 HP, 360 Ft # right? What about in the mountains?

What is the ride like? Have you ever driven a Thor class A Gas as a comparison?

Well we don't have pusher, but our Serrano was Thor's shot at a front engine diesel effort. Believe it or not, we looked long and hard for one that we liked (Serrano) and since October we have been enjoying this one. We're very satisfied with the 230 HP MaxForce Diesel. Just came back from Virginia where we were cruising at 65 MPH @ 1500 RPM's. We got a little over 12 MPG. After years of V-10's and not using the cruise control because of the irritation of downshift over every overpass, our travel has really taken a turn for the better. We can even chat without raising our voices and that engine just purrs. Love the quiet diesel generator too. Happy campers are we!! Almost can't imagine what I would do if I had 300 HP! It's kind of like when I drive my 540 HP Roush Mustang.....nice to have the power, but I hardly ever use it!

Yeah, I saw one at Tampa Show a couple years ago. For a DP it’s small, but it’s still 31’-6” long on a short 182” wheelbase.

I like how narrow and low it is for a diesel pusher, but many reviews felt it was underpowered due to only 275 HP from the 5.0L V8 Cummins on a motorhome weighing over 20,000 pounds.

If you just hit the lottery and are looking at getting an smaller diesel pusher to disappear until the news falls off everyone's radar there's always a Newmar New Aire at 33' 10" with a 360 HP / 800 ft lbs Cummins ISB with an Allison 3000MH bolted to it . MSRP starts at $371,359.

If I did the math right that works out to $941.67 per inch of motorhome length.

They actually start at about $260,000...
The size of it did, put it on our short-list
They're about a foot shorter in height, and five or six inches narrower than the big buses...

I've driven all - short 'compact' diesels, like my own Palazzo 33.3, tag-axle 45' coaches, and many different gassers and lengths...

what I've found is that the short diesels, typically with an isb6.7L 300-340hp engine package has a great air-bag smooth ride, and the average mpg runs about 12mpg for each, whether the Fleetwood PaceArrow, the Palazzo(or the 'twin' ForestRiver Legacy), or similar models on the same XCS Freightliner chassis.
With Newmar's newer NewAire, on the 34' length chassis, it's goes to show that the industry acknowledges that customers may like a shorter length Class A diesel, but with the amenities they expect from the larger coaches.

The gas units I've delivered, from Fleetwood to Coachmen to Forest River to Newmar, all get about 8mpg on a good day.

Even lately, I've purchased DIESEL cheaper than I've seen UNLEADED prices... a very nice benefit to the already better average mpg for the diesel coaches. : )

Tiffin and Winnebago have their own version of the shorter diesels, like the Breeze, Red, and Forza... and I can imagine have similar characteristics.

Now, another option is the front-end diesels, more like Semi-trucks, which also come in some shorter lengths - and they have greater pulling/towing capacity, though the mpg averages are lower. Renegade(Rev/Fleetwood) and now Newmar come to mind.

The factory hp/tq is 300/640 and was a little low pulling the mountains but I had a bad Variable Turbo Controler and had a Cummins authorized & warrantied 360hp/800tq tune installed (~$500) at the same time which I love! Now I can maintain at least 55 mph up the Grapevine and all other mountain highways I've traveled.

He was refering to a Newmar, not the baby-size Tiffin diesel pusher.

The Tiffin is very different by being about 6” narrower (95 vs 101+), and much lower too. It uses a smaller 5.0L V8 versus 6.7L inline-6. The V8 is lighter and shorter which should help reduce rear overhanging mass/weight. The chassis is relatively light-duty too with an 8,500-pound front axle, and uses 19.5” wheels, whereas most if not every other model uses 22.5” wheels and tires.

There’s a lot to like in its concept if you like smaller motorhomes; which seems similar to what the Axis/Vegas is compared to larger F-53 Class As. It appears a unique offering.

Sorry, Typo.... I meant to put in "660" on TQ (Thats what the Thor site shows). But if you can tune it for 800 TQ (Even at $500 extra) it would be much better.

800 sounds about right to me for a DP in order to be able to tow a Jeep and not be crawling up the hills.

By the time Im ready for a DP they will be electric hybrids with like 1500 tq. LOL. (If not all electric with about 9000 amps of batteries).

Even though it's not a "Diesel-Pusher" (It's a "Puller"): it sure is pretty!

It's built on the Sprinter Chassis: same as my Class C.
