Surge Suppressor?

Hi All, we are taking possession of our rig Monday (Windsport 33M) and have questions on surge suppression. I assume the inverter does not supply suppression and I should get one to protect the rig. The bigger question is they aren't cheap, so how do you keep some jack wang from walking off with it when the power connection is on the outside. When we had or Tiffin it was locked in the bay.

Thanks and stay safe.

I used a cable lock. It will not deter a determined thief, but it enough for the opportunist to find an easier target. So far no issues.

My experience, and you will find from numerous posts here, petty theft is not common in most RV parks.

First of all be sure it's an EMS unit it will provide more protection than just a surge protector.
Secondly, we fulltimed for 10+ years all across the country with it plugged in everyday, never had ours locked up & never had it walk off.
Most rvers that know what it is already have one, those that don't know/don't have one are afraid to touch for fear of electrocution.

Whiles it's true that you may not need to make it secure: peace of mind is worth a lot!
Besides: a good padlock and five feet of cable or chain isn't all that expensive anyway.

I purchased a unit that I hard wired into the line inside the coach. I previously posted on this a few weeks ago. I simply cut the wire from the transfer switch to the converter and connected them to the surge protector. Cost was under $200 on Amazon. Pictured is the unit mounted (box laying on top); transfer switch wire split to the surge protector; and our 2016 Axis 24.1 RV.

It's not difficult to do if you understand electricity a little...or have it installed. I did have to mount a board for the unit, but that was easy. The hardest thing was to determine where to put it...my wife came up with the best place.[emoji1783][emoji631]Click image for larger version
