Sound system

Anyone added an amp and subwoofer to their RV? If so where is the best place to put the amp and where did you connect the 12 volt wire? TIA

It might blow all the staples out and cause the sides to fall off...don't do it.

I did and it made a world of difference. I have a 2015 Hurricane. Here is a link to the post I made before. There are pics about the 4th post.

http://www.thorforums.com/forums/f8/...-yet-9364.html

Amp is located under the dinette seat and power comes directly from the transfer relay. Let me know if you have any questions.

Safe travels to all!

Great. We have a Palazzo so I will have to locate that relay. Thanks!

Thanks for that. I just laughed so hard after reading your comment. This site crack me up sometimes. You and Bob both come up with some zingers. LOL.

I thought about adding a sub to mine but first I want to add two more speakers on top of the dash or perhaps above my head. I have the speakers already - just waiting for time to install.... I always seem to come up with something more important to install.

All wireless. Can use inside, outside, by the pool, garage, take everywhere. A different way of thinking. I did not want to build a system then trade in unit. This we use everywhere on the road. When rig in storage use at home. Crystal clear sound from 3ft. To 4 houses away. Click image for larger version

Sorry, but my hearing is not good enough to appreciate a sound system. And frankly, from three or four houses away I don't want to hear your taste in tunes.

It's more about a different way of looking at spending or dumping $$ into an RV. that will sit in storage 9 months a yr. Some of us were Blessed with Thor choosing Axxera radios that have 6 month life span. I have chosen portables as replacement. Can use everywhere any day, not just 3 months a yr. A revamped audio RV system installed $400.00 - $1200.00 ?
At the next rally I'll play you a tune from the other side of the campground! Just looking at other options... Safe Travels.

but it makes the ride so much more enjoyable and a good sound system does not need to be played loud when parked.

Sound system

I bought a JBL amp and a pair of JBL component speakers from Best Buy to upgrade the cab sound system. I attached the power to the chassis battery and the fuse to the RV frame behind the front grill above the battery on the passenger side. The power cable was then passed through the firewall in the center where some other wires run through. I attached the amp to the inner sidewall of the coach on the passenger side underneath the dash. The speaker relays were attached the the wood framing behind the Axxera Radio underneath the plastic dash cover. I removed the factory speaker boxes and fabricated new boxes with a larger hole for the new speakers. I reused the fabric to cover the new boxes. Thank attached the separate tweeters to the “A” Pillars on each side with brackets I made and used the existing screw on the “A” Pillar mounding. To make the system work properly you can go into the radio setting and turn the loudness on. Works great![emoji1303]

I agree but I would want to modify mine to make it more enjoyalbe while cruising down the interstate.

The quality of the factory speakers in our Coach is not good. They are definitely cheapo’s. Upgrading those and adding a little power and larger speaker wire to them makes a big difference in the quality of the sound at any volume.

I blew out the front speakers in my 2014 BRP Spyder... I blame it on what I listen to... and the fact that the volume is always pegged at the maximum settings.

It keeps the wax in my ears from sticking to anything!

early on, we moved the Vizio soundbar and bass box from below the living area TV, to the front, so I could 'jam' while traveling... and it works so much better than trying to listen to your music thru the 'rv' speakers throughout the coach, especially since NONE are in the front driver's area!
I set the bass box down under the passenger's foot rest area, since bass doesn't need to be directed at you, and I hung the sound bar below the middle cabinets above the driver/passenger. While these come down when you lower the electric bunk, it stops just short of touching the top of the driver console, nice.
I ran the 120v wiring thru the cabinet and down the corner pillar to the outlet next to the passenger side seat. I ran the audio cable from the bass box the opposite way to the top of the soundbar, where it plugs in.
For the music audio signal, I ran it TWO different ways: 1) for sound only from the music soundbar/bass system, and 2) thru it AND the rv speakers, via the rear of the radio

The Jensen radio/video JRV212T system has two audio 'output' connectors on the rear, which I attached similar audio RCA wires to and ran up to plug into the RCA inputs on the soundbar, AND I have a audio jack line that I run directly from my iPHone up and into the audio jack input of the soundbar.

I can play tunes from the phone directly to the soundbar and bass box... or
I can play tunes/radio/cd from the Jensen system to BOTH the RV speakers and soundbar

the bass box on the soundbar system is the real plus here, as without it you are at the mercy of very little bass from marginally o.k. RV sound speakers...

On the subject of Subwoofers, I've seen posts by folks that have found a Subwoofer either behind the sofa, or behind the fireplace. In either case they were now Connected to anything, just sitting there ! I checked behind our sofa, no subwoofer there, haven't checked behind the Fireplace yet ! Maybe just a Urban Legend !

...the easiest way to find out is to trace the RCA colored wires connected to your Soundbar to where the Bass box is located, usually very nearby.

Our soundbar was located under the Living room tv above the table - the wires led down under the bench seat, where the Bass box was located - and where the Bass box is plugged in, since it is powered via a 120v outlet.

Be sure to wear safety glasses when using your sub-woofer. Flying staples can put your eyes out!
