I’ve got a set zip tied to a very convenient location. I’m going to have to revisit which ones are actually spared there. Hopefully I’ll never need to use them.

My problem with hiding things is trying to find them... I do have extra keys, carry in tow car. Really just need a door or compartment key for quick in n outs around the campground.

When 1st retired to full-time about our third stop we decided to go swimming while we put the clothes to wash in the laundromat, so I put the RV key in my swimsuit, we swam, moved laundry to the dryers, swam, folded/hung up clothes, headed to the RV, NO keys, looked back/forth from laundry to pool to rv, NO keys. DW says "we have keys for the rv in the truck" I say "yep but truck keys are the in the RV", after about a hour of searching & what to do I remembered I'd hidden a key to truck several years earlier just had to recall where, finally now swimsuits are dry we make it into the RV.
Our next stop was to have 2 spare sets of keys made to be hidden, but as these things happen of course we never needed them again.

Exterior cabinets aren’t secure

I broke my cabinet door key so I went to a small RV repair shop to get a new one. I asked about it and the owner said is it a “705”? I handed it to him. He said “yep, I have a bunch of these”. So my cabinet key is far from unique.

I wouldn’t put my spare keys in a locked cabinet unless I also hid them.

I keep a spare set of keys including ignition zip tied in one of the storage compartments in an area that can not be seen.

I learned the hard way. House in La, RV in Tx where I was working. It was a Jayco fiver but had a regular deadbolt door lock.
Left keys at the house in La and got to my RV and realized I had forgot my keys at home. About a 2 hr wait for a locksmith in the August heat ain't fun.
I kept a second set hid away after that.

Hubby and I each have a spare in our car, plus one strategically hidden one. We HAVE locked ourselves out, hence the lesson learned.

Just one.

You only need to hide ONE key and that's a key to the door. That one key will get you into the RV where you will have, at least one, other complete set of keys (including for your toad). One single key is easy to hide.
Everyone in your party should know where the emergency key is hidden.

Carry one: but always have an entire spare set available.

Keypad

Owning a Ford Transit chassis class B+, I added an after-market keypad. But instead of putting it on the driver’s door, I placed it in the propane cubby area on the driver’s side of our coach. It requires a 5 digit code to open the cab doors.

Have two sets always. With the fifth wheel, lost one set in a rest stop. Fell off my belt loop. With all the big rigs running, I did not here them fall. Thankfully my wife did carry hers that day. She sometimes does not. She does now. Took one True Value store in Needles California (If you do not know, it is known as the end of the earth!) and a speed shop to get all but one replaced. The True Value store did not have a person to maintain the key station anymore, but did have one nice lady that did keys in prior years. They sent me to the speed shop where they knew a retired locksmith worked. He had the last few except for one. You really want a spare set and not locked in the RV like my wife used to do. We now have a Thor Palazzo 33.2

Hide a key

Got to use mine a few days ago. Frustrating finding it but great relief!

In this case my wife could have saved me with key from home but that’s usually not the case. The door locked me out at a gas station!

If you ever DO decide on this option: DON'T forget to remove them before deploying the pipe!

They say that the memory is the second thing to go, and I've already forgotten what the first one was!

I heard THAT. When we traded our last coach I went to get the hidden keys and darned if I couldn’t find them! Never did.

Make sure your AAA (CAA in Canada) includes lock out coverage, I had to use it when I locked myself out in Nashville
