Spare Keys

Given the nature of RV'ing to sometimes travel far from home Im thinking having a spare set of keys is smart should keys get lost, get locked in the RV etc. Im wondering how others feel about and manage having a spare set available..where to "store/hide them", how to "store/hide" them etc.
Thanks.

I have a spare set but wouldn’t dream of discussing how to hide them on an open forum.

I have a spare set zip tied in a hard to get to place. There are so many obscure nooks and crannies underneath an RV that it’s not so much a matter of hiding them as it is making them difficult to reach. They are there for me. I think a bad guy would just break in. It would be a lot easier and faster.

My wife carries the spare set with her. No other need to hide them since they are always lost in that purse.

I have a keyless entry I put on my class A. You can bunch in numbers to access door or use keys. I really like it more than I thought I would

We always carry two complete sets of keys.
I have a complete set in my pocket ALL of the time, and the Missus carries one single key... that gets us to where the others are!

I have a 4 dial combination lock box that would normally go in to a receiver and locked via pin. It's thick and beastly. On my Wrangler I hid and secured this underneath. It's already come in handy before and saved my having to call a locksmith.

I plan to have this welded to my GreyHawk and I'm OK with the plan as only I know where to find the thing and I'm the only one that knows the four digit code. Even if by some stupid chance someone discovered it's location, they would still have to break in to it and if they're willing to put that much effort in to it they would get in to the rig by some means anyway.

Thanks for the info. Your key bundle looks similar to mine! I’m thinking I’ll “stash” a compartment key and then put a full set somewhere in one of the other compartments all of which lock with the compartment key.

We always pull a toad and keep a complete set of RV keys in there. My wife and I always carry a set of toad keys. We also keep a complete set of RV keys inside the RV and I only carry the RV door keys with me. Simple.

Always carry two sets of keys for the RV and the toad. I just hate the glob of keys for the RV!

They will almost fill an entire storage bay; won't they?

I carry just the cab key fob. The rest are inside the couch in a secure place. My wife carries the extra set in her purse

We hang a realtor lock box on the door handle when parked. It has a door and storage bay keys in it. Great in the driveway at home when I walk out to get something and forget to grab a set of keys.

keys

I carry the key for the front door only in my pocket and leave the rest of the keys in the motor home, but this is for a class c with fob and keys for cabin door.

I have one of those combo key holders, I lock it on the inside of the gas bay as that door does not lock. It is a weather proof key holder that without knowing the combination does you no good.

I suppose that you could hide them inside a "Stinky Slinky"...
After all:who would want to steal them?

My advice is ABSOLUTELY have at least 1 spare set hidden somewhere some how for every door on every vehicle.
When 1st retired to full-time about our third stop we decided to go swimming while we put the clothes to wash in the laundromat, so I put the RV key in my swimsuit, we swam, moved laundry to the dryers, swam, folded/hung up clothes, headed to the RV, NO keys, looked back/forth from laundry to pool to rv, NO keys. DW says "we have keys for the rv in the truck" I say "yep but truck keys are the in the RV", after about a hour of searching & what to do I remembered I'd hidden a key to truck several years earlier just had to recall where, finally now swimsuits are dry we make it into the RV.
Our next stop was to have 2 spare sets of keys made to be hidden, but as these things happen of course we never needed them again.
