Split versus All-In-One Bath

Research on this subject in different forums seemed too generic because they didn’t take into account the difference bathroom choice made on the remainder of the floorplan.

Given two similar floorplans, what are pros and cons of each? I’m using these two only as examples because they represent general arrangement I like best, and are similar in size.

Thoughts?

With split, there is no vent fan in the shower but a huge skylight. With split, there is usually a bigger shower and more room around the toilet. With the facilities across from each other, the hallway becomes a large dressing room. We have had all three bathroom types in various RVs and prefer split especially in the under 35 ft coaches. Wet is our least favorite.

No contest for me. That combined micro-shower was a deal breaker for us on the Axis 24.1 floorplan. Some things require too much compromise.

Seems the morning coffee never kicks in until just after someone gets in the shower. Nice to have the pooper separate. One of the biggest reasons I got the half bath. In lieu of it, a separate pooper is the direction I would have gone...and, as mentioned...you get a bigger shower.

We like our split bathroom. Gritz is right: one of us can be on throne at the same time that the other is in the shower...

If I were comparing only the bathrooms, I’ve thought that all-in-one is more functional for us. However, when used in floorplans similar to these, an all-in-one often leaves part of the kitchen accessible from the aisle, and in smaller motorhomes these aisles may not be particularly wide. In case of 24.1 it’s only the fridge, but others have part of kitchen counter also.

To me the split bath seems to make the living area feel larger because it’s more open. In this case split bath floorplan is the Tiffin Wayfarer which has house dimensions a bit narrower and shorter than Axis even though overall length is essentially the same. Still, it felt spacious at Tampa Show (in fairness room for closet is not accounted for on equal basis).

I’ve rented motorhomes with split baths when we were traveling with other family members but agreed to shower in campground facilities, so not much personal experience with just two of us. My Class C had all-in-one at rear and I won’t likely repeat that location, so not too useful.

For us the split bath is a non-starter even though it is larger. That and the feeling of a lack of privacy.

Just feels like showering in the bedroom and the lack of a vent.

Our shower/water closet actually has really nice airflow. The door to the shower opens forward, and the toilet side door opens to the rear. You open both of them up, and you've got lots of room, and a great place to get dried off! The vent over the toilet does an amazing job of moving air around in that area,.. Even better than some dedicated shower vents.

We had a split bath on our last coach and it provided a larger area for drying and dressing after bathing than we currently have in our new coach with single bathroom area. The vent in the WC did an adequate job of exhausting steam from the shower. But the split did not really provide more space in the WC.

The Challenger had a split bath with sink and toilet in one area and shower across the hall. The Accolade has a different spit bath configuration. Now we have the shower and toilet in one area and the sink across the hall. Haven't decided yet which configuration we like best but now the vent fan and window are in the area with the toilet and shower.

This is exactly like the "Blondes or Brunettes" question.
Everyone knows that the only right answer is "YES"!

My wife prefers all in one for privacy. If you go split, be sure the sink is with the toilet!!!! You MUST have a vent with the shower. Moisture/Humidity is your enemy.

Great minds think alike...our half bath has been an olfactory lifesaver after some questionable meals on the road, and there are certain things even a married couple shouldn't share

I do like the split better due to the fact we also do a lot of day trips, tailgating and use the rig for traveling to Destinations staying at the Don Cesar for 4 nights etc. Not always Campgrounds. On those occasions we use the split shower as a huge closet hanging clothes. Cases of beverages. Boxes of supplies. Golf club storage etc. The size of the two mean nothing for me. I am Thankful I can even take a shower while on the road!!

I wish I would have paid more attention to venting humidity out of shower area during the Tampa show. Another similar floorplan but a bit smaller and without a slide was from Coach House.

The toilet and sink are on driver side and small shower on passenger side, with a glass/plastic door that had a gap about 4 inches across top. For privacy the door to toilet opened 90 degrees to close off aisle completely, allowing access to shower from aisle and bedroom area. Seems efficient use of space since clothes could be left on beds while showering, etc.

I “think” there was a ceiling exhaust fan in aisle between shower and toilet but can’t recall exactly. I expect the small shower would feel like a steam shower regardless even if vented at top of door. Don’t recall seeing where fresh air would come in. For what it’s worth, shower seemed plenty large enough when I got in it, and my wife is quite a bit smaller than I am.

With the split bath, if the windows are open, the ceiling fan in the bathroom will pull the hot humid air out. We also use the ceiling fan in the forward vent to help. If it is hot, we just leave the bedroom door open with the bedroom A/C on low. There is a ceiling outlet in the hallway between the doors and it does a great job of clearing the humidity.
