Would the Safe-T-Plus correct that problem or is that another issue?
Mine is the same way and the Safe-T-Plus will not correct that. You will need an alignment shop to correct it. The original alignment should have taken care of it. When they align vehicle, they should center the wheel, and lock it down with an apparatus made just for that. I called Thor on mine and they stated that if the shop finds that to be the case, and not out of alignment, then they will reimburse me.

Off to the shop you go, or live with it. My OCD will not let me live with it.

I too have noticed all of the positive reviews of the Safe-T-Plus on this and other forums. When I made an appointment to have my 26 ft Freedom Elite aligned at a local truck service center I asked for an opinion. Owner advised against it even though he'd be happy to sell me one. He said the failure rate is significant and he has removed several. His opinion seems to be that Ford has a good product and it can be driven safely as is. I'm not sure I'm convinced but I think his recommendation has some credibility given that he is in business to sell stuff! We are going on a 4000 mile trip to the Grand Canyon next month and I'll see how that goes in the western wind. If it's nasty I'll certainly give it a try.

Having driven with and without, and planning a trip to Grand Canyon as well, there is no way I would go with the Safe-T-Plus or another unit installed.

Felices30.2 so you're saying you are not in favor of having the Safe-T-Plus installed?
I found my Axis to be difficult to control at times due to the wind and from passing trucks when driving it yesterday and today! Of course, I don't have anything to compare it to as this is my first experience driving a MH. I found it a little frightening at times. It feels similar to driving a boat !

I thought, "what have I done"! There was no way I could do that and enjoy the RV. Immediately got online and found this Forum.

I test drove today and didn't want to stop driving. Experience was amazing!
Were the conditions on your trip home from the dealer when you were driving "white Knuckle" due to road problems or wind? Or was the RV unstable under all conditions?

When I was looking at new RVs I chose the Windsport for several reasons, but one big reason was the 19 inch wheels vs the 16 inch wheels. I figured the bigger wheels and associated components would provide better stability. Other than severe crosswinds, or off camber pavement, I don't have much to complain about. It's no pickup truck, but for an RV, I think it handles pretty well.

Most smaller motorhomes with 16-inch wheels and tires have more sophisticated independent front suspension, so it's difficult to judge which handles better overall. There are a lot of variables involved in my opinion.

Having driven various motorhomes in windy conditions through Northern Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico and Arizona (worst being around Amarillo), I can only conclude that larger units (when similar in design) are affected by wind to a greater degree. I'm pretty sure that on average a 24-ft Class C won't get pushed around as easily as a 32-ft Class C when both are on same chassis.

Go to YouTube and search videos for Safe-T-Plus, they will explain what a stabilizer does and how it works. Thousands of positive reviews on many different forums!

Factory Warranty

Do enhancements like Saf-T-Plus and Sumo Springs affect the warranty negatively?

The Safe-T-Plus test is that it is adjusted to find center. It is a valuable asset in calm, windy, or front wheel blow out conditions. It makes the drive so much more relaxing.

I agree with the above statement somewhat. All my experience before this year came from fivers pulled with a 1-ton diesel, so while I was running down the highway with the cruise on steering with two fingers in 30mph crosswinds I was watching all the "big top-heavy boxes" lean and weave all over the place while they fought the same winds. Every once and awhile I would come up on a 35' to 40' MH that was able to drive the speed limit and stay perfectly straight. Why? Did some of these units have steering stabilizers and Zumo springs?

I have less than a year in my Challenger. But the initial 1300 to 1400 miles trip to Florida had one decent day and two windy "white knuckle" days. Thanks to information and advise on this forum and another one, I discovered I needed a front end alignment, max air in my tires, plus the CHF. I completed those and after some test drives in 20mph winds the rig handles better, but still not good enough.

On May 2nd they will install my Safe T Plus at the factory in Austell. I will be driving just under 500 miles to camp behind their building the night before. As soon as the installation, road test, and adjustments are complete I will continue north for another 400 plus miles. There is no better way for me to make a determination on these stabilizers working or not than to be able to compare on two consecutive days.

If it does what 90% of users have claimed then I will be a very happy camper. If it doesn't make a different than I am an idiot and am going to have to continue to fight the wheel on this "big top-heavy box" for a long time.

What is the cost of Safety plus stabilizer? We just purchased a new Thor 2017 26HE.

We have not used it yet. Still in the process of dressing it out.

Thanks in advance, Jere and Donna, Charleston SC

Take one step at a time number one have the unit aligned at a truck place that does big trucks for a living. The steering wheel off center is the first clue. At that time have them check the tire pressure and make certain they are what they need to be. Than take it for a ride if it still does the same than have the alignment place do the CHP as outlined in here

My son is a master mechanic with the largest Ford dealer in the state, and he also is a Hunter certified alignment specialist.
When I showed him your post, he would recommend to find a different shop for getting you chassis work done!
The F53 chassis has a recirculating ball steering system that has no defined center. Safe-T-Plus, Steer Safe (my son installed this in my motorhome) and other similar devices create such a center feel and allow you to drive more relaxed. Safe-T-Plaus and some other systems are also steering stabilizers (the Steer Safe is not), and help to reduce road surface influences on your steering.
I plan to install a steering stabilizer in addition to my Steer Safe system, and my son is all for it!

I have to say that rarely have I encountered ANY product of any sort with such universally positive reviews as the Safe-T-Plus. It is rather persuasive.... I'm getting tired of spending money on my new MH but I may yet get one of these before our trip west just on the strength of all of my new "forum friend's" recommendations!

Pete, I'm with you! I have never read anything but positive reviews on the Safe-T-Plus, and I've done a lot of reading!
