Never could keep a bird feeder at my house in NW PA as the bears would tear them apart at anytime. Asked the game commission to trap and move her. Too many bears not enough traps. One day she was between me and the house and upset, probably found nothing to eat got her angry. She came my way and Ruger sent 4 hollow point 357 slugs to slow her and #5 stopped her. Borrowed a backhoe to dig her grave and put a marker on it.

If you use a pole, and hang the bird feeders up at about 12 feet the bear population loses interest in them...

...At least all of them except the truly exceptionally-sized bears!

5 shots? You need a larger caliber sidearm.

Pre-hibernation fat and hair didn’t help. 1st was to ground to change her direction, didn’t want it to go as far as it did. Always try to keep them from damaging property and far away. That oldie is one of my carry pieces. Happy it wasn’t my 38, 380, or 9. Normal carry that’s too heavy.

And big for a black that’s why the backhoe was needed to dig the hole and move her. Found a nice 3’ marble cross at an estate sale, marked her place. Still wish she had turned and ran at the noise like 99.99% would have.

You're reminding of the time my Cousin Tedd was in a ground blind, and hunting with his Bow...
A 600 pound black bear walked up to him.
Did I mention that he had smeared bacon grease on his hunting jacket?
He decided that dancing with that Bruin over who got to keep the jacket wouldn't be in his best interest; so he put on in it's neck...
(Did I mention that he's not to bright?? )

So the moral of the story is the lights don't keep critters away, a .357 & arrows do!

I do that for snakes. Copperheads like my yard.

Maybe because I’m older but 2 years in Nam shot at, mortar, didn’t get me to pucker like that bear did. There are levels of pucker factor after all.

And on a scale of 1 to 5, 5 being needle tight, you would rate it a ????

A mortar is over quickly...

.. a bear will take it's own sweet time re-arranging you, and tearing off hunks of meat!

I put bears at a steady 3.0...

But meeting the Missus at the door after a late night: that's about a 12.7!

You still do that? I'm surprised she hasn't chained you to the sofa yet.

I can hide saw blades and lock-picks in places you don't talk about in polite company
