String lights and rodents

I am frequently seeing RVs at campgrounds with string lights on the ground underneath to repel rodents. Does this really work?

I thought they were just part of a look at me culture. Didn't know they may repel rodents.

Myth of the highest sort.
We have deer and elk and bunnies and mice on the back porch almost nightly.
I have been able to experiment.
They don't blink flinch or in anyway acknowledge the porch light going off or on or blinking or strobing. I've tried hard to see even the slightest concern.
8 years of turning the lights off on something... They don't care.

So... Yup.
'hey! Look at me!' with a myth as basis.

Thanks! We asked what they were for and rodent repelling was the answer, but I’ve never had luck with lights to repel packrats, so I was dubious.

Light them up if you like...

...But it won't keep the mice out.

Nah, but I did see that written up in an article somewhere and it looked legit. So, I guess you can't blame them if for taking the bait? If they're the look at me snobs you peak of, there's other ways to tell that's who and what they're made of

I always thought that those were there so you could find your way back from the party.

You're right.
Some to many to most might have been trapped by some article or fellow rv owner and their brilliant uneducated testimony.

I thought of that but my 'basis' theory didn't convey as it should have.
I meant 'they're:hey look at me now,
even though they had good intent.

I'd have fallen for it had I never considered how it all worked.

Coming up:
Counterpoint!
' but if it saves you from just one mouse.... '

Come on.......we all know there are at least 3 blind mice who will never “see” the light....one mouse is too many

i think this is the first time I ever saw reference to them for rodents.... I always thought it was just decoration, mood lighting, etc...

Wrong. #1 and #2 never made it past the traps. So what was #3 actually doing?

The three “blind” mice did not see the light string/rope at all (All blind) they chased the the farmers wife (in her DP) and she cut off their tales....so #3 is still looking for his tail?

I agree with ducksface. Noise, not lights bother rodents. I put a battery rodent chaser in my engine compartment and two plug in ones inside the RV. I have not seen a bug or had a wire chewed in years.

If it was on the internet it must be true, NOT. Never had a problem when using Fresh Cab or noise.
The 5er in the storage space beside me bought the light theory and now believes the lights flashing red white and blue allow the mice to find his unit and none of the others.

Ha, Ha. There is also a myth out there that an unopened bar of Irish Spring soap left inside will keep mice and rats out while stored. There is a "mythbuster" video on youtube that shows a mice nibbling on the bar.

The things people will believe.
