Survey Full Tanks, 1/2 F or Empty

Just a survey, do you run your RV full of fuel with 80 gal and accept the extra wt, or do you run 1/2 full or 1/4 full tanks?

For me, i am always topping my tanks off as i leave the RV park and head home. I know i can make it home without, but Full tanks gives me the sense of security.

Also, as a public school graduate, i think it cost less to fill my tank 4 times at 20 gal, than one 80 gal fuel fill at once.

My gas gauge (55 gal) only has 2 settings - Full and 3/8. It is always full in storage since it is my bug-out plan during hurricane season. Never gets below 3/8 on the road and gets filled before bedding down at a campground in the event of a bug-out. As far as the cost of fuel…it is what it is.

I fill my tank in my home town every time we return from a trip.
Thus I keep the tank full at home.

On the road I go as far as I can get on the tank and do a full fillup. Usually somewhere just below 1/4 of tank. It usually depends on where I can find the cheapest gas at that point on the guage.

Good Question

Agree - on all points.

I always top it off before setting up camp. The next morning we're ready to roll. Going through any hot states I need to keep it above half or the generator will quit for axillary air. I never go below 3/8. And we look for costcos which are usually near the freeway.

Never below 3/8ths on the road. Seldom below half.

Always filled with water and fuel and usually propane. Food replenished and waste tanks emptied on the first full day home. It carries full clothing at all times. I own so Damn many panties and socks.
Fridge has been on every day since the day we bought it. Always loaded.

Verizon hotspot always on(it ties to a phone number I've had for 40 years, so I'm married to it).

To leave we just unplug the shore power, store the cord, hit the garage door opener...and gone.

I'm interested in what the 1/3rd tank of water folk say about tanks of fuel.

My tanks are 68 for diesel and I keep them full on the road and at home. I refill once I'm down to a 1/4 tank...... but with potential diesel shortages looming, I will fill up once I get below 1/2 and see a good stop.

Haha! But it costs less to fill 3 times at 1/3 than once full!

I travel full gas. Full water. And several gallons in both black and grey tanks. I drink the fresh water. And put tp down the toilet. Just a rebel at heart.

Never stored low on fuel

Typically under 1/2 it is time to fillup

The 150 gallon tank and 7-8 mpg gives you decent range and options on fueling locations

Fridge is off but otherwise ready to roll

Grew up with metal fuel tanks and you never left them empty

Gas

Once I get below 1/2 tank I am looking to fill up. When I pull-in or pull-out I am looking to fill. Keeps me on the road at full speed longer. I like to be at least at 3/4 when in storage. Great info shard by all.

When my tank hits 1/2 I too am looking to fill it up. I like to have a full tank when I pull into our over night stop. When it is stored, it has a full tank of fuel. I also travel with a full tank of water(now) just in case we need it on the road as well as a full tank of propane at all times.

Like Jimbo and Paul, I want tank close to full when stopping for night in case of emergency.

When driving rental motorhomes with generator in hot weather I don’t let it get too much below 1/2 tank in case we break down and need to run A/C for extended period. Otherwise will let gas get down to +/- 100-mile remaining range when driving long distances to save time (usually just under 1/4 tank).

Weight of fuel should have no bearing on travel because you should have weighted after loading with full fuel and be at or under GVWR.

While traveling, once hitting around 1/2 I head to my RV Trip Wizard planned fuel stop. For planning I set the Trip Wizard fuel capacity to 75 gallons and MPG to 7. This usually results in one fuel warning per day and I look for a TSD Logistics fuel stop around that area.

For storage I am usually between 3/4 and full because of the location of the last truck stop under TSD Logistics’ fuel program. When we leave on the next adventure I fill up at the first TSD discount truck stop on our route.

That’s the way we’re ‘Rolling Down the Road’

I like to keep ours min above 1/2 full on the road right before setting up camp, so if needed we can run the generator in the odd event the campground loses power.

Always store the RV with a full tank. I am not a bit concerned about the weight of 80 gallons of gasoline. It only weighs 480 pounds. The same weight as two big guys.

I hope when you folks “store” your unit, you’ve added Stabil or some sort of fuel stabilizer.

Use the "Contact Us" link at the bottom of the page to send a message to the Administrator. Janet will be happy to change that for you. I'd do it but I don't have enough horsepower.
