Tank Heaters

My 2018 Thor 30.3 is supposedly equipped with tank heaters and there is a fuse in place for tank heaters. How does this work?

Do you have a switch on the panel to turn them on/off? (Our Axis has a switch for both black and grey tank heaters.)

Typically they are thermostatically controlled and won't turn on unless the temp is less than 40F or so. Just pads stuck to the bottom of the tanks.

Usually only for black & grey as fresh water tanks are usually inside the heated area of the coach.

Too much the Magic Bus!

No there is no switch I can find. I called Thor, left a message about it, again, no call back yet

If you don’t have 2 switches then you probably do not have heaters. On my unit I have two switches on the control panel. Jerry

I would be surprised if you don't have these switches. I would think its pretty standard.

I've got switches in my Outlaw: they're on the control panel.
If you've got them: that's where you should start looking for them.
Good luck!

On my fifth wheel the tank heaters are thermostat controlled no switches. The worked well in January when the temps hit 17 degrees

On the Vegas, for the 2018, tank heaters was listed as an option (along with rear stabilizers and a power seat). On a previous coach we had with them, during the walkthrough we were told they weren't meant to be run continually, just enough to thaw to dump.

They run on electric and are totally separate from your furnace.

I have had heaters and I have had my stuff still freeze. For me the best insurance on being able to dump during the winter is to drop in a qt of line antifreeze in the tank just after dumping. Usually your valve will freeze shut in extremely cold conditions if the tank heat can’t keep up with the temps, stops working, forget to turn it on...... a cover all solution.

Some tanks are heated by warm air from the furnace. These usually do not have electric pad heaters. No furnace, no heaters.

I would also say pad heaters are not for thawing but to prevent freezing. It could take days for the heater to thaw a tank full of waste

If the Black tank were ever to freeze solid: I'd drive South, and trade it in at Lazy Days; in Tampa...

Tampa's too far south. By then the crack in the tank would be oozing.

How about if I just pull the T-Handle, and drive South until the tank if empty?

Don’t have to pull the tee handle, like Gnach says, the crack will dump it just fine

Well THAT's good to know!
I'd hate to pull the handle if I didn't really have to!
