Thor 30.1 ace heater

My heater comes on for a second and shuts off. I checked the breaker and the propane gage says 3/4 full. Any ideas what else to check?

Set the thermostat so that it activates the furnace, could be its just not set properly for the temperature inside the RV.

Start with the simple things first....

Make sure propane is not the issue by lighting your stove. The propane could be off or there could be an issue with the regulator.

Let the stove and water heater run for a few minutes and then try the heater. An air pocket may be trapped in the line and the heaters safety is shutting it off when it does not detect a flame.

The furnace requires two bits of feedback for it to continue running:

1 - It has to see air is being moved by the fan. This is done with a sail switch that moves in the fan air and tells the controller that the fan is running. The furnace will not light without this positive verification.

2 - Once the controller sees air moving it will attempt to light the flame. Then it needs to see the flame is lite to continue supplying propane. This is normally sensed by the ignitor. If the controller does not get feedback that the flame is burning it shuts down and tries again.

The controller is earlier Atwood applications was mounted in a place where it could easily get wet causing multiple furnace lighting issues. If you have recently been driving it or subjected to heavy rain you may want to remove the furnace's outside panel and check that.

Finally, the Atwood controller boards are a high failure item themselves. If you follow the troubleshooting in the Atwood furnace manual and determine you have a bad board I would recommend replacing it with one from Dinosaur Electronics.

Had same problem. Turned out that mud daubers had made nest in exhaust pipe of furnace. Take outside panel off and look in there with flashlight. Remembering that furnace will not work correctly with panel off.

Thank you. I was told it was a gasket. It worked once replaced. Unfortunately $400 later!

it was a gasket

who did the repair and what gasket did he replace, I have had that issue and it went away, I was thinking mine is a gas issue, my On Demand stopped for one day and never done it again, $300 for a new board still have not used that.

Same problem had to replace circuit board for furnace. Somehow water gets in that area and rusts out the board. We are now going on our 2nd board and don’t know how to resolve this from continuing to happen. Any ideas?

You could "dope" the circuit board with a conformal coating to make it waterproof. Electronics hobbyists have used clear (transparent) nail polish for this purpose for many years.

Search "conformal coating for electronics" on Amazon and you'll find various options from paint-on to sprays.

Gotta be cheaper than replacing a $300 water damaged/shorted PCB!!

I had a problem with the heater also. We went through a severe rain storm and I think the board got wet. The next morning the heater worked fine.

When I took off the cover, I could see where the edge of the casing had imprinted on the foam lining of the cover. There was part of the cover around the vent pipe that wasn't covered in foam.

I got some sticky back foam weather stripping at Lowes (the smallest) and ran it along the indentation on the foam of the cover. I think that should protect the board.

Edit: I watched the video above and on my 2021, Dometic had applied this mod into their build because my board was not flat, but mounted at an angle. It still got wet, though.

The storm that we went through was one I don't think we'll ever go through again, but you never know and I am confident the board will be kept dry.
