Thor Motor Coach Issues and Complaints group on Facebook

So... as part of my daily reading, I joined a few groups on Facebook. One of them is particularly entertaining (the title group Thor Motor Coach Issues and Complaints.) I of course got called out for commenting that since it is a group that does nothing but complain, it makes it hard to offer any kind of real advice. Every RV will have issues. Now yes, some of these folks have some REAL nasty problems. The fun is that nobody wants to take any kind of accountability, they all assume it is built just like a Ford or Chevy and should simply just work. Some even say they have been RV'ing for 25 years and never had issues like these (yet I say they should have hired an RV inspector prior to buying since they really didn't look too hard.) A lot of the issues are discussed here all of the time and we offer some helpful solutions. I guess most people aren't as handy as many of us, things like screws and wallpaper blemishes can be easily taken care of.

I won't mention names but there is one thread in particular that is just downright sad to read because the owner feels justified in slamming Thor at every opportunity for even the silliest stuff. My first thought is... YOU drove off the lot with it like that! Did you not look at it? Did you ask anyone to take a look at it for you? This person feels "experienced" and defends their actions... and there is no seeing anything from any other point of view... no debates or agreeing to disagree... anyway, enough about that.

All I can say is that it makes me appreciate this forum so much more every day. Thanks to all of you who make this such a great place to visit!

Anyone that would join a Facebook group to complain about anything says all I want to know about that person.

Here’s the thing... if it was constructive conversation it could be an excellent place to help those who need it. I am also a member of the Thor Windsport/Hurricane Owners group and that is much more like this with people sharing information and ideas. The other group comes across as whining. (No, not winning...)

Facebook seems to be the place for that. We've seen that kind of behavior in other groups there as well.

Seems that there is that special person who feels they must shout out to the world that they have been slighted in some way....

Yeah it can stay there.

I’ve occasionally stopped reading even this forum when it gets too heavy into complaints about minor stuff or when the same complaint is offered for the hundredth theme. But I always come back because there seems to be wonderful fun people here with a common passion. And because the vast majority of folks truly want to help and have huge experience and wisdom with which to do it.

I joined this forum 2 years ago when we bought our first RV. The people here have been nothing short of amazing sharing knowledge, experience, best of all the common bond of RV’ers helping each other. I learned so much about my Vegas in the first year from this forum from guys like Ed Felker and his manual, Jamie Geek, Mr Sunshine, MoMike, and many others. Saved my bacon on many occasions. I couldn’t imagine being on a forum of complainers just not constructive. Hopefully I’ll get to a point where I’ll gain enough experience and knowledge to pass on to newbies like was passed on to me. Thanks guys and the forum.

Honestly, I joined the group to try to offer them some help (and hope!) but it certainly appears as if that is NOT what they want. All I hear them talking about is lawsuits and forcing Thor to build using the same standards as the auto industry. My point to them was it will all come with a higher cost (much higher cost!!) if it comes at all. Any new auto dealership will tell you they make their money on the service department.

That's Facebook for you. I only stay on it to stay in better contact with family and old Army buddies. I've noticed that most of my friends list don't post much anymore which tells me they are doing fine.

Do you remember that old saying about trying to teach a pig to whistle?
Let them enjoy their misery: it seems to be exactly what they all wanted anyway.
