Trombetta replacement

I had the Trombetta failure on my Tuscany. I determined that the Trombetta at 13.8 volts and 7 ohms coil resistance was disappating more than 25 watts. You could not leave your hand on it! It self destructs itself! I found that White Rodgers has an almost identical solenoid about same price that comes standard with silver plated contacts that has as 32.8 ohms coil. This is about 6 watts dissipation! Since the solenoid is only energized when the charging voltage is greater than 13.6 volts, pull in with a 15 volt coil is within spec.

Here is a note I copied from the White Rodgers catalog. Been using my White Rodgers for 3 years now without any problems. One on ebay for $97.62.

NOTE: CAUTION must be used in coil selection for use in 12 volt
systems where battery charging may expose coil to continuous,
higher-than-rated voltage. 15 volt coils are recommended.
White-Rodgers will not be responsible for consequences of
misapplied solenoids.

I know this is an old post but I do believe my trombotta is bad. I bought this https://d3d71ba2asa5oz.cloudfront.ne...11-3586__1.jpg. It does not have the same post configuration instead of 2 on bottom it has 2 on top between the main posts. Please help with correct connections. My trombotta I believe is bad because I am not charging house batteries

Hooking up is same. Put the battery terminals on the large posts and the solenoid terminals on the smaller posts. It is should not polarity sensitive on the respective posts. The new solenoid should have come with instruction diagram.

Also, not sure about your situation, You say not charging house batteries. Is this while running down road or connected to shore power? The trombetta only hooks the shore power bank to chassis bank.
