Toilet Paper

My wife, who always pays attention to prices wants to know why one couldn't use septic tank compatible toilet paper in our motorhome instead of the RV specific toilet paper which is pretty expensive? I'd like to hear from others before I try something that could clog up the sewer system.

Thank,
Larry K. Hammond

Also stops clogging at home. This will not swell and clog like other papers. Throw the plungers away!Click image for larger version

We have always used whatever is cheapest. Been camping in an RV since 1980 and haven't had a problem yet.

I do only install "Air Assist" Toilets in my homes or Businesses. Wish I could install in Motorhome.

We have always used the same TP in the MH as we do in the house. Never a problem in over 12 years.

You want TP that will break down in the black tank. To test TP get a medium sized clear glass jar with a lid, fill with water, add 3 sheets of your favorite TP, wait 2-3 minutes and then shake the jar. If the TP falls apart it’s good to use in the RV, if the TP stays whole, or semi whole, I wouldn’t use it.

Even though shaking is involved, this is NOT a martini mix!!!

Speaking of corn cobs....

When I was just a kid: my Grandparents had this plaque with three corn cobs; hanging up in Grampa's workshop.
The first and third cobs were red; the second one was white...

The instructions were as follows:

"Use the first red corncob. Then; use the white corncob in order to figure out if you need to use the third corncob or not!"

We did the solubility test with Sam's Club (Member's Mark) toilet paper and it dissolved well. We've been using it for many years.

Rv paper or not....1 or 2 ply will work....or at least it has for us and we have an ACE which has a toilet that doesn't have a pipe that drops straight down but has an elbow. We do the deed and then let the paper "soak" for about 10 minutes and flush. Does the job.

We don't drain the black water tank until it has been used a lot and then only after putting in a several gallons of water, and if possible after the rig has been run down the road for lots of miles.

Saw a cartoon one time. Had a hand reaching out of an outhouse door reaching for a cat with the words, "Snowball hates it when they run out of toilet paper".

I prefer 2 ply as 1 ply dissolves before you can finish wiping LOL IMO

TP water jar test

It works, used the water jar test years ago with my first RV, now into number three, and no problem, still using the same TP. At any rate a certain brand of 'ultra' that came out several years ago would stop up a suction air flush it was so tough. I think they have modified it , but we don't buy it. I remember our plumbing costs from years ago and especially other cost from the kids stopping up the toilet.

If it dissolves/breaks-up in a jar of water, it is safe for the RV toilet.
