Too hot inside RV Vegas 25.2

When we are independent camping when temps run in the high 90's it is hard to make temp comfortable. The A/C drops temp 10 degrees max. I have a bubble foil cover for the large front window and side windows that are in the sun.
If this has already been discussed, please send me a link.
Thanks
David

We went with the MagneShades on the outside of the windshield. Made a huge difference and easy to use. A bit spendy though.

But I am assuming you have to carry a ladder to put them on?

Some things you probably already are doing: Switch the vents to open where you are and closed where you aren't, including the big vents on the A/C unit. Run a small house fan. Ice packs, loose and minimal clothing, stay hydrated, plan to be out of the coach in the hottest part of the day. Find some shade or go to a movie or a mall. A curtain behind the front seats might help, too.

We have two roof top A/C units but when the temp outside gets close to 100 or above we have a portable A/C unit as well. We stay 20 degrees or more cooler with it on even on the hottest of days with no shade over motorhome.

In addition to using reflectix to cover the front windshield, we hang thick blankets from the front bed (lowering it slightly, tucking the edge of the blanket, then raising the bed again to hold it tight). This creates an insulating curtain further blocking off the heat coming in through the front cab as well as restricting the cooling area. We also use insulated foil covered pillows made to stuff into the fantastic fan vents to block heat from pouring in from the roof. I also tuck another panel of reflectix behind the blinds for the side windows facing the sun.

Always try to take advantage of shade from trees and extend your awning to throw shade over the side of your rig.

There are some videos on how to inspect and plug air leaks to prevent the cool air from your air conditioner from mixing with the hot air being pumped out (apparently the two air flows run counter current to each other and sometimes the installers fail to tape over the gaps to prevent them from mixing)

Of course the most effective cooling method is to alter your plans and deliberately head for areas with cooler weather

Magna Shades are held in place by magnets glued inside the windshield, a short pole is used to push the shade in place, takes less than 30 seconds. There is a YouTube video that shows how they are installed and removed.

Our Gemini has a single AC, which is in the rear of the coach. It is ducted into the front also, but the front will run much warmer then the bedroom area. I put a fan on the dash, facing the rear of the coach, which really helps equalize the temperature. In our case, it doesn't seem so much to be a capacity problem, as much as a distribution problem.

Add one of these rotating vents to your inside cover, it not only increases the airflow output it lets you direct the airflow where you need it.

We have a cover similar to the Magne Shades except ours uses velcro (and yes I carry a ladder). The cover makes a huge difference. We notice it right when putting it on.

Is the vent towards the rear of cover/coach, or towards the front? Or does it matter?

If you have been following my other threads, you know I gave up trying to get the single AC to cool the entire small motorhome. Motorhome is in the shop having among other equipment adds, a second AC for the front. Not inexpensive, but for us a necessary addition. Hopefully warm weather outings will be more pleasant now, or when I get the coach back.

when you take YOUR AC cover off you will see the suction and discharge plenums. Put your vent on the discharge side.

Yeah, the one AC does ok up into the high 80's, but at 90 plus it starts to lose it, especially if we are in full sun. Be interesting to see how much better it is with the second AC in front. We now (or will when we get the coach back) have the same AC capacity in the Gemini as we had in our 41 foot DP with four pretty good sized slides, so lots more square footage.

The shades and the vent pillows all help, but if your AC capacity is not adequate, nothing but additional AC capacity solves the problem. Don't misunderstand me, I use sun screen shades on the front and cab windows, and they most certainly do keep some heat out. I used shades and vent pillows in the former DP, and with the two AC's could keep the inside livable, though even the two AC's struggled once the temps got past the mid-90's. Will be interesting to see how two AC's same capacity as I had in a 41 foot DP, will do in the Gemini with so much less air space inside.
