Tortoise or hare?

I am definitely the tortoise -slow and steady while driving. I set cruise max 65 mph on good interstate roads and just chug along. Omg just logged 4000 miles last 3 months and there are definitely some jack rabbit rv drivers out there seen lots of 85 plus mph. I like to finish the race

Wait.
Those people in rv's going with the flow of traffic didn't make it to their destination?
Did they wreck?

Well that depends on time, doesn't it.

If you're a working stiff (well ok Covid has changed a lot of that formula) and only have a weekend then you're going to drive like you stole it so you can get maximum enjoyment out of your limited time.

We're still working so for the shorter trips, yeah I'll go "traffic" speed.

If I'm in a more relaxed mood or have the time I'll go "traffic" speed-1. By this I mean I'll set the cruise just below traffic speed and ride in the right lane. I'm slower than most everyone so I can just enjoy the ride while everyone passes me and since I'm not going drastically slower than traffic it doesn't hinder many people. Typically I'll drive this way on those week+ trips where time isn't as important (since we've allocated "days" to get there instead of "hours"--units matter people!!).

Jamie's view is fair.
If I need to slow down due to a lack of skill, and that's what these speed conversations always boil down to, the level of comfort, which is the very definition of skill, I'll drop in behind a slow convoy of trucks and keep 15 or so car lengths to let anyone swap lanes as they need.

It's not a perfect plan, but it is a plan, and it's a plan set by what I consider professionals, those guys I'm following.

These conversations are always about comfort. If traffic is comfortable at 75mph and I'm not, that's my problem and I make sure I don't make my problems other people's problems.

How many here have a spouse who won't drive the rv?
Why not?

Like Jamie said. If you go to work and have limited time, I can see it. Get to where you're going, deescalate, and get your buns back home by Sunday night so you can go to work in the morning. Unfortunately, you may have wound yourself back up trying to keep the rubber side down on the way home. Then there doesn't seem to be much of a payback.

I see the tortoise approach more as a preference than a problem. I'm trying to enjoy the journey. I paid a lot of good hard earned money for my rig and outfit it with all the necessary 'stuff'. Why would I bust tail going down the road, miss all the beauty, and land somewhere asking myself what it looked like getting there because I was white-knuckling it to my next destination. Or worse, crash the RV.

If folks don't like it, pass me. If passing is difficult, dangerous and/or simply can't be accomplished, I'll pull over at the first feasible opportunity and let them go by.

Others may have a different point of view and that's fine. As long as it's not negatively impacting me, they can do what they want.

Exactly.
Doing considerably less speed than the flow of traffic negatively affects everyone else.
Doing slightly less... Not so much.
60 in a 75(an example, not a definitive) screams lack of skill or total selfishness, both aren't exactly who I want to share the road with.
I believe, and this is me, an rv driver should work hard at acquiring the skills of traffic.
If you're whiteknuckling, you're incapable. Get capable.
If you can't see the sites/sights at 75mph, aquire the skill to do so.
Anything less is...everything less.

'I paid a lot of good hard earned money for my rig'

I'm not sure according to the cost analysis analysis, my $67,000 motorhome should be holding up a $87,000 hellcat, or even a very common f250 platimun.
Should I consider they didn't buy their vehicle for travel in the manner they chose, and that MY vehicle price is the main factor in the inconvenience I cause by going less than the flow of traffic, and thereby affect their ability to travel, unrestricted and unmolested, at the speed of the flow of traffic for which they bought their vehicle, at possibly greater price than mine?
I mean, my cost was more of my income(with no thought as to the price of their vehicle) therefore I have more rights to impede?

My percentage of income spent doesn't really have much to do with traffic patterns.

Punchline:
Don't be a menace to South Central while drinking your juice in the hood.

The first job you have: fly your own "plane". Quit worrying about the folks around you. That's their job.
Whether or not your Spouse drives the RV is completely irrelevant to this issue.
But if she does: how she drives it is worth discussing...

Typically I’ll find a big truck whose driver is skilled and consistent and I’ll tuck in behind it and stay there sometimes for an hour or more. Its not that I lack the skill or comfort to go faster I simply don’t see any reason to do so. The journey is the destination.

'Quit worrying about the folks around you. That's their job.'

I am one of those folks, therefore it's my job also. And my job entails not being a menace just as their traffic job does.
The folks are an active flowing team in traffic, no one is an isolated static doing individual tasks.

Veritably, your every breath affects those people even miles behind you.

The spousal unit drives it like it was meant to be driven:
Just like any other vehicle its size.
Not fearful, yet cautious of its size and limitations.
SU does most of the driving. I'm one of, of what I assume to be, the few guys who will let anyone else capable drive if given a choice.

Take a look around in traffic and see the vehicles equal to rv size in the flow of traffic. So.. Many.. Of.. Them.
Except for lack of skill or selfishness, what's the real excuse? The drivers in rv sized non-rv vehicles don't have an excuse.

I drive what the traffic will dictate, not trying to get anywhere fast just keeping up with the flow. Both my wife and I really try to avoid 4 laners and prefer the 2 lanes through the towns and villages across Canada and the US but you cannot avoid them 100% of the time. We split the driving 50/50

We travel Interstate West and East several times per year

I80 is by far the fastest traffic of them all

Usuually set the cruise on 70 and watch them zoom by

Normally 60 or so on two lane and 65-67 on the other 4 lanes

A lot of the roads have passing lanes as well

We have logged well over 500,000 miles and will be adding quite a few more this year

It is nice not to have a schedule

Towing a camper before I70 was completed so have seen a lot of rural America

Is the Rat Race Finish Line close enough to have you counting the days?
Tennessee? Turn North, and you're just over a day away from us!

Just because someone drives 60 MPH in a 75 MPH zone does not mean they have a lack of skill. Nor does it mean they are selfish or self obsessed. It means they are enjoying life and wondering were the fires at that the morons speeding by at 85 MPH are trying to get to. Working stiff on annual leave or not, speeding is unsafe and to think it's not means you are a danger to everyone else on our roads. Be the tortoise, not the hare. It you only have a week off, that means you can't do Yosemite, Yellowstone, Rushmore and the Grand Canyon. If you think you can, you are a moron.

My need for leisure will never be inflicted on others.

I'll not win this but I'll sure be known for accepting societal obligation and personal responsibility.
