Tow wiring issue

Hooked up my towing cable between my Vegas and Chevy equinox and can’t get my lights to work on the equinox. Any ideas on what and where I might check. I’m not an electrical guy. Thanks in advance.

what 'lights' are you referring to? Did you have a lighting wiring kit installed back to your tail lights?

Sorry, I was referring to the brake and signal lights. The lighting kit was installed a couple years back.

You'll have to explain your setup a little better. Do you have a multi-meter and how do you get power to the lights on the towed (7-4 pin, 4pin?)? Do you have a brake system? Pics help immensely.

That written, do you taillights on the Rv (guess is yes).

Do you have power to whatever external connection you're using between the towed and the RV (i.e. power coming out of the RV to the connection).

A few things to try.

Check the cable on your Vegas to make sure it's in all the way.
Do the same at the Equinox.
Test (all) your lights.
Get some contact cleaner at autosupply, hardware, Walmart,Amazon.
Get a multimeter less than $20 while you're there. fyi, they are much easer to use than they look
Liberly spray all 4 connection points, connect and disconnect the cable 3 or 4 times.
Test your lights.

While working on the cable carefully check it and the connectors for damage, visible wires.

Best of luck and let us know

Thanks so much for your recommendations. I’ll give it a shot in the morning.

Thanks for your input. I’ll check those items.

A handy thing to have in cases like this is a plug-in light tester that you simply plug into your RV's towing connector. It can show you quickly if all your light wiring connections are working at the RV. If that's working right then you know the problem is with the toad or the cable you're using to hook to.

Example of tool (this one works for 7 or 4 pin connectors):
