Internet TV options

Now that I have solved my RV internet question with the AT&T 29.99/month unlimited data hotspot:

What are people using for internet based TV? Direct TV Now, Youtube TV, Hulu, etc? One important question is being able to watch sports from my home market when I'm not home. If I read Direct TV now if you are away from your home market you can't watch sports???

Also, who has the best DVR capablity, commercial fast forward, etc????

Pete

That's too good a deal to be true!! Does AT&T cut the speed down after 20 or so gigs? Verizon offers a similar device but we couldn't get through one NASCAR race before they cut the speed down so slow it quit working. Unlimited by their standards is up too them; not how much you want to use yourself. Streaming TV burns up gigs faster than a cat can lick his...paws. If your TV is a "Smart TV' with app capability, you can use most any of them. I prefer Sling for all channels and have the $7 per month plan with HULU for movies.

Hulu only lets you change location 4 x's per year, I just ran into that issue. The new youtube tv lets you change location as many times as you like & keeps one location of your choice as your home area. They charge $40 per month for this. I also found using a hotspot alone w/my phone which is tmobile, even though I have "unlimited", started getting "throttled" when it came close to 50 gigs in a month, so I added a verizon jetpack unlimited. Between the two, plus the youtube tv & the new rv specific WeBoost - I no longer have internet, cell, or tv loss of signal while travelin. I guess it will really get tested once I'm way out on blm lands somewhere.

We use Playstation Vue. You're limited to something like 5 devices watching simultaneously (we've never hit the limit) and they really don't care where you're watching from (I frequently use it on trips to catch up on stuff).

But where does your internet come in at? Don't you have to have internet supplied by some source in addition to the PlayStation? A friend of mine uses that at home but still has to have Charter internet.

Yes you have to have an ISP and you don't need a Playstation for it they have apps for just about every device, and you can also simply watch on vue.playstation.com via a browser.

T-Mobile offers a 55+ plan that has unlimited T&T with 4g data until 50g. It slows after that. The plan is $55/mth and you have to be over 55 to get it. I guess people over 55 don't use the internet much? I make up for it all by lonesome I haven't been anywhere I can't get a connection yet - even in desolate Quartzsite, AZ. I'm sure it'll happen sooner or later.

I was talking to my daughter the other day who works for Comcast. She mentioned something about Roku. Don't have all the details but you could do a little leg work. Again, I think you have to an 'account' with them too (not completely sure). My TV has a VGA and HDMI inputs so I can use my computer and a hot spot to drive the streaming.

I'll let you know for sure if we get throttled in a month or two. The people on eBay who sell you the access to the plan say that it's grandfathered and not throttled due to total use. You can get temporarily throttled due to traffic on the network you are connected to but it is supposed to restore when the traffic subsides. It's definitely kinda weird that some random person can sell you access to an account and transfer it to you. Once it's setup the 29.99 goes direct to AT&T and the reseller it out if the loop.

yes, I added on Unlimited Multi screens & No commercial option (bundle).
I think...the no commercials will not work in First Run T.v shows if that makes sense?
Hulu Live is an Amazing product.
I am saving $100.00 per month and do not need a Satellite like my last two rigs. The reason I know it's great is my Wife said she liked it WAY Better than the DISH TV. we had for 10 yrs. HULU LIVE will give you a 1 week free trial. No one to call and talk to, No contract, real nice consumer based product.

A "Roku" is just a device for playing a streaming service (very similar to an Apple TV). Many smart or internet TVs have Roku functionality built in (our home TV is this way).

As such if you have a Roku you'll still have to subscribe to a streaming service (Playstation Vue, Hulu Live, Youtube TV, etc.).

You need a streaming DVR like a Tivo Bolt VOX. You will also need to subscribe to the services you want Hulu, Amazon Prime, etc. To get a good streaming picture you need a 5 mb connection (4g LTE). When you are out in the country, you may be degraded to 3G with 780k data. That wont work for HDTV. That said my ATT mobley works ok most of the time (unlimited data with throttling if tower is saturated after 22g) per month. Nothing touches the picture and convenience of my DirecTV HR-54 DVR and wireless bridge to supply all TVs with a quality HD picture.
