Not a bad idea, looked at the coach yesterday and can see the advantage for not much labor. I'd probably tack some carpet on top for warm feet when getting out of bed. We added theater seating and is very comfortable. The couch was brutal. Cost about $2500 installed.

If you give up one small bottom drawer you can build a platform on the entire floor doing away with the step stool. Then you move that drawer to the front of the platform you built and you have a factory looking drawer that is now about 7 feet deep.

Giving up one drawer, and gaining a place to store umbrellas and fishing poles and rifles and that exhaust thingy that goes on generator exhaust, for comfortable sleep due to a wider selection of mattresses is what I'd do.
It's a couple of 1x6 and a piece of plywood cut to fit. You can even use the existing floor covering to make it match.

(Don't tell my spousal unit or I'll be building this)

And
With about 20 answers so far, I think it's the only answer which didn't add another 4 to 6 inches to your already existing height problem.

I think it really is an easy fix to build the platform.
The carpet would he nice at night.

The seat heaters like in cars?
I think I paid $24 for a pair of them(it's really four pads, seat and back for two seats, and two switches.)
For $24 more bucks you'd have a 12v heated floor....

Actually modified your suggestion with a hinged top box 14w x 24L x 10 D and DW now has ample shoe storage. Just slide the box down to access the bottom drawer (never has much in it anyway). it's sitting on a rubber mat so it doesn't slide. She's able to climb into bed easily.
