Yeah, I can see that. You open the door with that snake in your hand, petting it .... and the panhandlers turned into superman, a double back flip, a spin and leaped over a car gaining ground on his buddy. Reminds me... Oh never mind. Was a long time ago anyway about putting a snake in a bag by the side of the road, someone stopped, opened the door to thier car, grabbed the bag, started off... and went about ten feet, then all four doors flew open with everybody piling out.

My Missus has already given me the "Green Light" for a compact, quick access safe.

This is a great unit if you bolt it through the floor or a fixed wall. You can carry tons of cash and other things as well. I have one on the boat as we leave it for a few hours at a time while touring and dinners ashore, etc.

I keep a can of wasp spray near the door. It has a 30 foot range and works like mace. I haven't chosen to carry... At least not yet.

If nobody else did, I wouldn't either. Never a "good idea"...hopefully just not a bad one.

Walmart overnight parking

On our travels South. West I have stayed at Walmart and Cracker Barrel Bass Pro Shops Cabela's also offer overnight parking be very careful at Cracker Barrel on Interstate 64 we were approached little man knocking on the door holding a gas can wanting gas money my wife noticed a car circling and then cut its headlights off directly behind us pretty sure we were getting ready to get hit so just be careful

X2 on the wasp spray. The non-foaming kind. Good for wasps, too.

We have stayed at many Wmts, C Barrls, casinos and a few Bass Pros. Some church parking lots, too. More casinos seem to charge now, but some give you free paying points.

I highly recommend a subscription site, www.overnightrvparking.com It's $25 a year, and it is mostly crowd sourced. It gives you more info than just which places allow and is searchable. Comments by users are very helpful, things like lot lighting, traffic noise, cost if any. Some updated reports will earn you subscription credits.

Mr. Sunshine always great to read your posts looks like you get to the travel a lot more than me and my wife as we're limited to vacations in the spring or in the fall but we do grab as many 3-day weekends as we can how do you convince your wife that Walmart is a safe place to stay overnight after what she seen what happened to us because there's a lot of times when we're traveling it's hard to find a place to stay talking about campgrounds right off the interstate some of them look a lot more dangerous than Walmart and I know there's no real answer just making conversation

Wasp spray also kills ants quicker than if you dropped a brick on them...
But if you don't have any of it: brake cleaner spray is equally effective!

It's as good as pepper spray, and about twice as legal!

If you figure out how to convince a wife about anything, please share it around our online campfire! You are right that there's no real answer to that one!

That concern about "safe" WMts is exactly why I subscribe to www.overnightrvparking.com Some of those Wm stores are in urban fringe areas that we would avoid. Away from those urban areas, we have never had a problem. So you drive another half hour. (If we are stopping near a major city, we try to pass through before we stop, so that we are driving against the morning rush when we leave the next day.)

Truck stops and interstate rest areas are our last resort overnights. That almost never happens for us.

Generally, we like Crakr Barrls much more, we are usually the only RV in their lot and after they close the only traffic is the trash truck and some early morning deliveries. That site will also show some grocery stores, Lowes, etc.

We have had some uneasy overnights at campgrounds that were sketchy, too.

Be Forewarned

I live in Carlisle PA and we have a Walmart right of off I-81. The Borough (that's what our town administration is called) Prohibits RV's and tractor trailers from parking, not just overnighting, in the parking lot. There are signs at the entrance, but they are not large or particularly noticeable. The Borough does patrol and does issue citations.

Funny: My wife made a reservation at a camp ground, the manger was supposed to leave a note for me with the space number and an envelope to slip $29.00 under the office door. We arrived late. Couldn't find a 50 amp space so
I parked in front of the park office front door, put our slides out cooked dinner slept, cooked breakfast and left before they open at 8 am. Felt guilty but then NOT. Ran Generator all night mid summer in Texas.

Walmart overnight parking

Once off of I-95 South Hilton Head we stopped at a Publix grocery store pick up a few supplies directly across there is a Walmart but it's always seems to be crowded so the wife asks manager of Publix if we could stay there and he said sure no problem well after the store closed about 11 p.m. around 2 a.m. a street sweeper showed up he came by our motorhome probably 10 to 15 times as close as he could what a nice guy

I use an app on my iPhone that identifies Walmart locations, and designates if overnight parking is allowed. It also has comments as to desirability and safety of the locations. Some communities forbid overnight parking, and the Walmarts have to respect the law. Some walmarts are in larger shopping complexes where they lease the store, and have no say in allowing overnight parking. In Anchorage Alaska, tow trucks were sent to roust overnight parkers. We use the app, read the comments, and call ahead. Saves anxiety on the road. Our experiences at Walmarts that allow parking have been free of trouble. The 24 hour stores are generally safest as you can park under a light. Always make use of the stop to replenish food and other needs, they appreciate the loyalty.

Hopefully 95 won't be as congested as it was for us! We left the 21st from eastern Pa and hit a ton of traffic!

Yeah, those sweeper machines seem to show up in the middle of the night at about half of the WMts we've stayed. Still better than the refers and idling trucks in and out at a rest area or truck stop. We often run a small fan off our inverter, and that covers up some of that whiny vacuum noise. Those sweepers have a narrow swath, so it takes a whole lotta passes to cover a parking lot. Gotta pity that guy running that machine all night.

I know the head of security in our old home town and although the signs say, "no overnight parking" that's just a CYA thing for damages or insurance claims. Yes, there have been people impose and park there and then want to sue Walmart for damages they got from someone backing into them. Go in, ask to see someone who can help with you parking and ask. Tell them you plan to buy some supplies while you're there too. My guy said they have not turned anyone away...and if they did, there's a Cracker Barrel just across the street.
