Want to buy a jack for changing a tire
My 2018 Thor Chateau 24 F built on a Ford E 350 Super Duty plaform is my first motor home. I have owned a couple of small travel trailers before this.
The Thor does not have a spare or a jack. I have a road side assitance plan through Good Sam but I want to be a little more self-sufficient. What type of jack should I buy and what should the capacity be? Also, I am thinking about buying something that would attach to my RV trailer hitch in the back to hold a spare tire and wheel. I would perfer this to attaching something to the rear bumper. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you.

Your E350 chassis has a GVWR of 12,500 lbs. Theoretically a 4 ton, 8,000 lb rated bottle jack would handle one side, but I would go with at least 6 tons. Amazon has lots of them.
For a spare tire carrier that mounts to the hitch, check out hitch mounted spare tire carriers on Amazon. They ain't cheap.

I use one of the 12 ton jacks from Harbor Freight. The 4 or 8 ton would be plenty to lift it, but I felt safer having the larger diameter jack stem of the 12 ton.

Ok...I have a spare tire on a bumper mount. As far as jacking up my 24F on the road somewhere - forgetaboutit. I can eat a sandwich or drink a beer while waiting for roadside assistance. I want to spend my retirement money, not my kids.

I agree: let other folks work hard; while I hardly work.

If you live in the West especially Az get a spare tire. You can wait up to 8 hours or even overnight for road size service.

Not really familiar with your model but when I had my Freedom Elite I called Thor about how best to carry a spare. They advised using a hitch mount and made a point of saying the square bumper will not support the weight of a spare tire. FWIW

Amazon has a low profile 9,000lb 12v electric jack for about $200.

Candy Store Jack Works well!
Harbor Freight jacks are cheap and will serve the purpose. Make sure you have a 2"x8" plank to put below it when on dirt. Maybe you leveling boards will do. I've had to use mine once in anger(on the road). It and the spare tire were a pain, but we were able to keep on truckin'. The sales person said not to bother with a spare; he should go the boonies where I was and try to get the tire replaced!

I have a Freedom Elite 24FE that came with no spare. I bought a used tire and a used spare wheel and a Draw Tite 6715 hitch mounted spare tire carrier. Works great! I don't carry the jack, but wanted the spare for the roadside assistance guys. Of course, If you have 6 identical wheels as I do, you already carry a spare!

I see a major concern being the storage space used for carrying the tire changing tools...
Unless you're in a Class A with an excess of outside storage.

As for a spare tire carrier, I use a Roadmaster tire spare tire carrier that fits into the hitch receiver, swings down for easy tire removal, and you can use it to pull a toad. Probably the best spare tire carrier on the market.

I bought a spare tire rim for my Mercedes Benz Sprinter Chassis from a knock off rim shop in Oklahoma for $45.00 including tax/shipping and a matching spare tire on Amazon($175). I had the local auto shop mount and balance it for $25. I bought a spare tire hitch mount on Amazon for around $45.00. I used grade 8 bolts/nuts to secure the tire to the hitch and added a cable bike lock to keep people honest. I did have to relocate my rear license plate to the rear ladder with an LED license plate holder and wire harness from E Trailer for around $50.00 using a couple of zip ties to hold it to the ladder. It plugs into the trailer wire harness.
