Water heater door

Well, that didn't take long. How do i get the door or cover open on my water heater. It seems it should swing down, but mine seems hung up on top right. So does it open to the right? Or does it come right off?

All of the water heaters I have seen are hinged on the bottom. There is a thumb tab in the top center of the door that acts as a lock. There is not much to the door so maybe yours is hung up or bent a little.

Thx much. I sort of figured that might be the case. Sometimes brute force and ignorance is what is required! - although i think we can try and be smarter than that.
