We Got A LEMON

We purchased a 2015 Thor Ace 29.3 May 2015. We are so sick of the problems. We have had over 20 issues and it has been at Camping World at least 90 days of the 10 months we have owned it. We can't even get the service issues finished without another one coming up. Any suggestions? Only 2 months left on the warranty.

Your only solution is to talk to the selling dealer. Lemon laws do not apply to RVs. Also you may consider changing repair shops. Camping World locations differ significantly. Check out the RV Service Reviews site.

We don't have any other choice right now for service since it is under warranty. There are no other rv dealers within 100 miles. We have an appointment tomorrow with the Manager at Camping World.

You do not have to go to a dealer for service. A lot of repair shops will do Thor Authorized Service and warranty work.

....And, you don't need to return to your original dealer for warranty service, You can go to any Thor dealership, (as long as they agree to schedule you).

With 2 months left you're almost out of time. This information will only have limited effect for your remaining warranty service period. However, whenever you take in your RV for service never simply drop it off and place yourself at the mercy of the dealership's service writer. Act like any fulltimer who must live in it 365 days a year.

Only take in your RV once all parts are available, all authorizations have been settled, (not just for warranty work, but also applies to insurance claims), and they have been reviewed by the actual technician who will install them. Then, make a specific appointment for the hours it takes to perform the work, and pick up the RV that afternoon/evening.

Don't know where you live, but the factory service center is awesome! If you've kept documentation for all the issues, call Thor customer service. Also they should aprove mobil technicians.

Ron is curious what our issues are ? I think we all are? Can you give us an idea of what you are dealing with?

Just curious...how do you handle those situations where some diagnostic troubleshooting of a problem might be needed or an intermittent issue? Wouldn't you have to leave it with them for awhile and wait for them to get a technician on it?

Apparently Thor reads this forum. Got a call from Thor's Tom Overton regarding my post. We requested an extension on our warranty but that's not happening. He offered to help expedite any further warranty issues (we have 7 weeks left). Also sat down with our dealer this morning. He said some units never have problems and so don't. The service there is just terrible. It is such a long process to get anything worked on. Diagnose, request authorization, order parts, get repaired. Could take months. Sick of it. We are going to sell as soon as possible and hope we don't lose our a... on it. Just want to get enough to pay off the loan.

Jvsnyder - I am SO SORRY that you have had these issues. I am really happy that Thor contacted you directly. Some of the issue is with Thor. Most of it is with your dealer. BUT, please don't give up. As someone on another thread put it (and I'm paraphrasing) , "You are not going to get a trouble free RV for $90K. You will have to spend at least $350K".

You have spent all this effort getting your rig fixed. Breathe deep and take it on the road. I promise I will wave at you.

I, too, am sad to hear that your Coach has not all that it can be...
I hope you get your problems resolved before your warranty expires..it
appears CW has had plenty of time to do the needed repairs.
I see you are in Florida...which CW are you dealing with ?

Jvsnyder,

Please take time to shop around with the CW dealerships for help with your problems. We have had problems with our RV, with Thor, with some of their providers...but the CW of Statesville has help us get the repairs done.

RV is in right now as the first year ends in May and we are going over it with a fine toothed comb. It is in for oil change and some maintanence work.

To all, our shower curtain rod is in (thanks several of you and the parts manager at CW of Statesville) and I will be completing that MOD tomorrow after I pick up the RV. Hopefully, I will be able to find that thread again and post the end results.

Doc

I believe there is Federal Lemon law that covers RV's

The Magnuson Moss Warranty Act (“The Act”) is a Federal law that protects buyers of virtually any goods sold in the US which came with an express written warranty. The law is sometimes called the “Federal Lemon Law” but do not think that it applies only to cars and trucks. It applies to any consumer goods which cost more than $25.00, if those goods came with a warranty. Under the Act, a manufacturer may designate its warranties as “Full” or “Limited,” but they must do so clearly. If a manufacturer, or someone else who is obligated under the warranty, fails to remedy a defect as spelled out in the warranty after a reasonable number of repair attempts, the Act requires the manufacturer to either refund the purchase price or replace the product.

Winnebago is a much nicer unit in both construction and materials
Give it a look & consider a trade.
