Where to put a litter box?

Sorry if this is another dumb question from a relative newbie. We have a Four Winds 31W class C, and have recently adopted a rescue cat that we want to take with us on our travels. So where's the best place to put a litter box? He's a relatively big cat (14lbs) and at home is used to a pretty big box that will not fit anywhere in the RV. Anybody got any unique solutions? Several people have suggested putting one in the shower and leaving the bathroom door open?

Throw another vote on the pile suggesting the shower.

We put a covered litter box in the shower on top of a form cut rug. That way we can quickly take it out without a mess. The door is held open/closed with magnets so we just have a metal piece bent to hold the door open a little between the magnets. Works great [emoji106][emoji1783]

Since your unit is only 31’, I would have to agree with the shower. I deleted the fireplace/heater in mine and have it in that cabinet on heavy duty roller glides. But I have a 40’ 5ver.

Yes we are in the same boat as you with two cats, and plan on the shower with door open too, and plan to use a Cat mat in the bathroom to catch the cat litter.
have fun..

I hate kitty litter in the shower. I used the dead space under the rear bench of the dinette. I use a rubber shower mat as a bottom liner and I built a back divider, so I can store my air pump and hose behind the litter box. DW felt a light was necessary, so I bought a LED night light and an extension cord so the cats can see where they step. We use a litter mat in front of the entrance and have a 3x5' Berber carpet just outside. The Abbys use it instead of their normal scratching post. I change the clay litter every four days and vacuum the area every second litter change. We have been traveling with two Abbys for 21 years and this the best setup I have found.

The some ACEs have a basement cubby next to the door which would be perfect for a cat box except it has no outside access. It seems they do not allow basement access into the motor home directly for safety reasons.

You basically have two options.

The shower
The cab between the seats or on the passengers side floor.

Or both:

The shower while underway, in front of the passenger seat while camping.

Our ACE does have the cubby aft of the steps which would be perfect for a litter box, so much so that if we had a traveling cat I would install an exterior access door for that space.

Litter Robot in Washer Dryer closet is our ticket. Cats never stand on their dookie and get it on my stuff! Puts all the turds in a basket and tells us when to dump! Woot!

After searching to see what everyone else did for their kitty’s stink box, I decided to go a different direction. I installed a cat door into the bench underneath the dinette and place a sidelong cat box inside (secured with Velcro underneath) and a motion sensor light so the little demon can shit with the lights on.
DW is happy.

We put ours between the front seats. We travel with z3 cats and a dog.

Is the cat in a crate while traveling?

We only have one cat but she doesn't need a crate while traveling. She has her own "Cat Bed Cave Sleeping Bag" set up on the bed and she stays in there while traveling. If we stop, she comes out for a drink/snack and to use the litter box which fits nicely between the bed and bedroom sliding door while traveling. We move it to in front of the passenger seat when camped.

P.S. - Not our cat in the above picture. Ours is in the attached picture in her favorite camping spot.

We use the basement cubby next to the steps. I removed the sliding door and enlarged the opening so the litter box fits into the cubby. We don't let our cat out until the trip is finished, so there is no need for outside access to the cubby. However, I drilled a hole in the bottom to facilitate cleaning the cubby with water.

The exterior access door would be for ease of human maintenance, not for the cat to use.

Thanks. It is awkward scooping the crud out of the box. When the floor of the cubby gets messy with litter, I remove the box, sweep the bottom of the cubby, and occasionally I will wash and rinse the cubby with soap and water. The steps have to be swept frequently.

I agree that a good size outside access door would be helpful. Hmmmm.

It may be easier just to make the bottom of the cubby removable.
