Who is using a Ready Brute Towbar?

I installed one earlier in the week and today I took it out for a test drive. It seemed to work well but I've never used on before so I don't know what I don't know. At least the Jeep didn't come loose and crash into the mountain in a fiery mess of smoking debris, so I guess I have it hooked up right.

It seemed to me that it was a bear to hook up. Mostly the part about lining up the front connectors with the clevis. Is it really that hard or am I just lacking the proper technique?

I have the ready brute elite tow bar set up. Like it a lot and wouldn't have a anything else

Your tow vehicle has to line up to the bars just like any other tow bar. I compress the bars fully then pull the jeep up so it's a couple inches from the bar. Then extend the bar to hook up. Took a few times and it's easy now

Yes, that's the same one I have and that's pretty much what I did today. I had the transfer case in the Jeep in Neutral and the tranny in Park which let me push the Jeep back and forth until the bars met up with the clevis. But it was not as easy to do as it sounds.

The instructions say to hook up to the clevis with the arms un-extended, and then move the motor home away until the arms are fully extended, and then lock them.

That just doesn't seem like the best way to do it.

You definitely should not have to push your vehicle. Pull up close enough to attach the clevis. Set the parking brake. Lift the tow bar arm and unlock it. Extend it, but don't attempt to attach in the fully extended position. You want to be somewhere in the middle so you can easily maneuver the arm into position. If you have to fully extend the arm until it locks it just means you didn't pull up far enough. Once they are both attached slowly move the RV up until they lock. Don't forget to release the brake.

Do they actually "lock" on their own? Or do they just fully extend and then you have to twist the locking mechanism 90* to lock it?

They should lock on their own when fully extended. You could test it by just extending it without attaching it. Here's a good video on it.

Yes they lock on their own in either fully extended or retracted only when the locking handle is pointed to the front or back. If pointed to either side it won't lock

After I hookup I put the jeep in reverse and very slowly back up one sometimes both bars lock

Then I put the jeep in tow setting transfer box neutral gear in park emergency brake off

Then I pull forward to lock the arm if needed
